This was a pretty good season

This season, OU:
  • Blew out a likely NCAA #1 seed in non-conference.
  • Reached their highest poll ranking in years.
  • Swept the team they were fighting for second in the Big 12 with.

But they also:
  • Came close but couldn't quite get it done at Kansas.
  • Lost in Lubbock to an okay but not great Texas Tech team.
  • Squeaked out a close win against the worst team in the conference.

The guards are very good, and it's nice to have a senior PF who can score and rebound like this one. And also a young defense-minded center, if he can just stay on the court.

I know some are pessimistic about their prospects in the NCAAs, but I think Hollis and Aaron will carry this team a long way.

A lot of people around here worry about our depth, but I like the spark that Selvy and Detrick provide off the bench.

I think it's better than "pretty good" but I also believe due to lack of scoring depth on the bench, this team won't advance as far as we think and that's a real shame. But extremely proud of this team this year and it ranks in top 15-20 in Sooner men's basketball seasons in the past 50-60 years.

It is not over yet and it has been a great season. A few things that are a bummer are:

The close road losses at ISU and KU. If only OU could have gotten one of those. They were so close.

The road losses to Texas, KSU and Tech. OU should have won two of those in my opinion.

The home loss to KU. OU has to win that game. You have to win at home in this conference if you want to win it, even when playing a program as good as Kansas.

OU was so close to only having two or three losses. Oh well. Lets forces on the future. OU is going to play well in the Big XII and NCAA tournaments.

It's been a great season - we had an OU team playing at a level early on that we haven't seen in a while and it sure was something to watch. Also was witness to hopefully the Wooden Award winner and probably a top 5 single game performance in OU BBall history.

We have senior guards/players who have a lot of NCAA tourney experience and a guy who can literally carry us to wins - let's all let this thing ride out and have a beer and smile at the end regardless the result.

I'm excited as well, but I also know we'll go as far as our guards will take us (and SOME inside presence...not a huge one but some).

Hopefully playing some "fresh" blood the guys will get back to playing like they did. I'm hopeful that Cousins, Woodard will have some good games. Spangler can hit a couple of 3's like he has lately and Lattin can stay out of foul trouble....

Lots of IF'S either way Boomer~

So much on the defensive ends depends on Lattin - from defending the rim to of course rebounding. Our guys on ball defense is just very poor and they've come to rely on Deem to bail em out, which he was very successful at early on. We just really can't afford to have a game like TCU where he picks up 4 fouls in under 10 minutes if we want to have sustained success against top tier teams.

This has been a top-ten season all time at OU. Has a chance to be better. Here's to a run of nine in a row!

I see what you did there. :hollis754:

Great season.... still have a chance to cut down the nets in KC and make a Final Four run in March Madness. People need to adjust their damn expectations... In basketball you lose games sometimes, the shots don't go down, etc. This is a great season and a great team.

Is OU going to retire Hollis Price's jersey some day?

It has been a great season. The only problem is that we have not improved during the second half of the season.

As bad as it feels we played the last half of the season, we have won 4 of our last 5, and the one that we did lose took an epic meltdown to lose.

Teams with veteran backcourts are exactly the kind of teams nobody wants to face in March, and they're the type of teams that end up in the final four. We have a lot of reason to be optimistic about this postseason, and I'm excited to see what happens. The one and done nature of the tournament means anything can happen on a given night, but the lights out shooting we're capable of means we also have the potential to just blow the doors off some really good teams.

It is hard to explain, but I am more optimistic about OU's chances in the NCAA tournament than I am about the Big-12 tournament.

A 9-0 post-season run would be epic. :OU-logo:

Teams are often judged by how far they go. This team could be eliminated early, although probably not until the round of 32. It could run the table if they quit fumbling as bad as they did against TCU and regain their shooting form. They are probably able to make it to the Elite Eight on talent. Then, it will be the team that is hot.
