Word is down here that Mitchell is enrolling at North Texas. I have heard that from a number of different sources.

I'll bet Porter now goes to Mizzou for sure. Hopefully, I'm wrong and we get him, though.

I'm just curious what UNT's staff could do at a high major like OU?

Not trying to get rid of Capel here...just wondering what type of talent they would bring in?

looks like they can bring in players who can't qualify at a big 12 school.

LOL.............no wonder Sawyer is pissed and hatin' on little girls.
Tony Mitchell turns down Mizzou for North Texas. LOL

wait i'm confused...if Mitchell was declared ineligible by the NCAA (according to what I read) for Academic reasons how can he go ahead and sign to play basketball at another school...

It is about qualifying, not picking UNT over mizzou

First of all, you're an idiot. I never "hated on" little girls. I hated on hypocrisy.

Second... you're an idiot. He is going to North Texas because Big 12 schools can't accept non-qualifiers.

ksSooner, a non-qualifier can pay his own way to school for one year then later receive athletic aid and be eligible for NCAA competition if he makes progress toward a degree. Mitchell will have to take out need-based loans on his own and pass 24 credits before he is eligible to practice or play at UNT. Big 12 schools cannot do this, though (Big 12 rule).

He is still ineligible at North Texas. He will not be on any scholarship for 1 year at UNT. He can not participate on the basketball squad in any way shape or form. And the only money he could possibly get from the school is thru financial aid...and that will fall on his parents financial background. He won't be able to play(maybe/earliest) during spring of next year.

My assumption..since he is from Texas...is that he can't afford to pay out of state tuition at Mizzou so thats why he is transfering back to a Texas school where he can live close to home or at home and might be able to pay for his schooling so that he can become academically eligible.

He never attended Mizzou, so there's no transfer involved. This is the first time he's enrolled anywhere.

There's a Big 12 rule against non-qualifiers that keeps him from Mizzou. Technically he could pay his own way for a year at UNT, get in good academic standing, then transfer to Mizzou on an athletic scholarship and sit out a year, then play (essentially missing two years, like going juco... but with one of those two years getting to practice with Mizzou). Highly doubt that ever happens though.

I'm just glad he can finally move on. This whole process took about six months longer than it should have.

Yeah, Sawyer, I'm the idiot. You're the guy that said:

I'm all for doing the right thing and all, but college basketball fans don't need to adopt the family. Sucks that his mom died, but sh*t happens. If he didn't play for kansas no one in that state would care.

The more I read it the more I want to throw up.
I feel sorry for you.

And I believed you were calling me names 6 months ago when I said Tony Mitchell shouldn't be in college and eligible and you assured us all he would be and it was all fine. Guess not.

I likely called you names 6 months ago when you distorted the facts of Tony Mitchell's case. That's true.

And I'll go ahead and do it yet again here. Tony Mitchell IS in college, and is doing so legitimately under NCAA rules.

The problem didn't even lie with the "issues" he had in Dallas that hit the news over the summer (information all illegally leaked, by the way). He was ruled ineligible because the Florida school failed to meet the higher home school standards for eligibility.

Funny that a fan of a team who won a championship with a scholar like Darrell Arthur would be throwing stones here. Both teams in that championship game played with guys who had no business in college.

And I fully stand by that post you quoted. If Robinson didn't play for kansas you know damn well you wouldn't even have a clue about his sister's situation and you'd be doing nothing at all. If it makes you that sick, donate a little money (or even just a couple hours a week) to a kid whose brother doesn't play for kansas and prove me wrong.

Of course, I wouldn't have a clue about Thomas Robinson's sister if he didn't play at Kansas, that doesn't mean anything.
If my next door neighbors kid had cancer and I helped raise money for the child does it really matter that I wouldn't have known the child if I hadn't moved into that neighborhood? No, it matters that I decided to help that child regardless.
You make zero sense and continue to make yourself look like an arse.

I was involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for 6 years and have been involved in my "Littles" life for going on 13 now.
I've donated money and time for years.
You sir are clueless when it comes to the true meaning of giving back.
It doesn't matter the reason....it's the action to make a difference in a child's life.

So he's cheating the system because he's not smart enough to get into a Big 12 school...sounds like a GREAT kid to have on a team:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

Glad he isn't going to play for Mizzou.

I bet he tears it up at UNT. They are going to have quite a team if they can hold the current group together. Too bad White is graduating or they could really make a run in the dance next year.
