Top 25 transfers >>> CBS

Iowa State has the #4 and #5 rated transfers. SMH at how far we've fallen behind in basketball...

This article is a bit disturbing given the comments made by Jeff Capel. Capel promoted Romero as a future star. It is a bit hard to believe that so many other schools could have a transfer better than Romero given Capel's comments. Perhaps the answer is not only was Jeff Capel not a good coach, he was also willing to mislead people to keep his job.

Given his production in two years at Mississippi State, I don't know why anyone would expect him to suddenly become a star.

He absolutely could be a quality player (Zaire Taylor was a successful transfer for Missouri and he was nothing more than a decent low-major player before). But nothing about his past suggests star IMO.

Momo Jones- starting guard for Arizona on an elite 8 basketball team. Averaged 10 points and almost 3 assists. Transferred to Iona and is eligible immediately. Glaring omission. I would rank him top 5.

I always wondered why he was being talked up so much. That being said I think he is a big upgrade to what we were making due with last year. He won't be a double/double type player but I think we will get good solid production from him. Good luck to him.

Good catch. Jones received his hardship waiver granting him immediate eligibility about two weeks before this was published. Not sure how Goodman could've overlooked that.

It wasn't just Capel who raved about Osby. In addition many analysts who observed us practice said he was our most talented player.

Osby & Cameron Clark are going to lead this team and when March rolls around Osby will be considered a top 5 transfer. He's going to be a bulldog in the paint.

He tried that once already. Didn't work out so well.

Ever heard of Jarvis Varnado? Nobody was playing ahead of him. The bottom line is that Osby is better suited to play inside than float on the perimeter.

Now go eat another twinkee.

You misspelled Twinkie.

...and completely missed the joke.

Yes I have.

Ever heard of Kodi Augustus?

This is not a politics forum. If you want to exchange one-liner political insults do it elsewhere.

On the topic of the article, I've wondered if transfers tend to get hyped because they practice so much harder than their teammates who have to save themselves for games. Osby was hyped, now M'Baye is getting similar hype. I am certain they will both be good players, but I wonder if they're practice performances along with a bit of 'grass is always greener' makes transfers get serious hype. It seems that often transfers are the best player on a team until they suit up. Still, I'm excited to see Osby add some physicality and athleticism to our front court.

Osby is a fine player. He will run over what ever kind of production we get out of Fitz and easily be a doulbe double player on this team.

Easily?

How many double-double players has the Big 12 had in the past five years?

We are not discussing the history of the Big 12 conference. I am talking about Osby's production.

Relative to what Fitz hung up last season. What was it 12/7? It is my opinion that he is better than Fitz and will outrun those numbers. On another team or in another year I might not make that prediction. But, on this team this year and relative to who he will be competing with for points and rebounds, I feel comfrontable in doing so.

Right. And history suggests it's rare to see guys average a double double in the Big 12. It's been done by 11 guys in the past decade. Seven of those 11 were first round picks in the NBA. It takes a special player to accomplish that, regardless of the team he's on (all but two of the 11 were also on very good teams).

And Fitzgerald averaged 5 rebounds per game last year. Expecting Osby to come in and double Fitzgerald's production and quadruple the best Osby's ever done himself is probably setting yourself up for disappointment.
