Aversion
feeling of repugnance toward something with a desire to avoid or turn from it
This somewhat characterizes my feelings towards the discussion of potential prospects. I envision more potential harm than value.
Let's say that we view the videos of a particular prospect and draw an unfavorable conclusion. If we make a comparison to someone that we find better, like a current player, we may well insult a player that Sherri is trying to recruit. If we find fault, that could reflect on her recruitment. Sherri may have seen more than we have. She may know how to eliminate the negatives.
If we say that a recruit is necessary, that may offend another potential recruit, one that Sherri wants more. It may also be insulting to players already on the team who did choose to come to OU.
I've learned enough from watching these videos to be aware that they are inadequate. I also have a disdain for recruiting services. Let them get to the Final Four before they select the best players. Having seen a lot of HS coaches who are only coaches because at one time PE was easy, I don't know how much weight they should have unless they are proven successes.
If someone commits to OU or to somewhere else, it is easier to discuss them. Once they sign, discussion is fair game. Until then, it becomes risky in that we may insult someone with uninformed opinions.
I will say this about what I have seen of two OU recruits who have signed. I watched the Iowa/MIami AAU game, and I wish some of you would watch that game before you make any further comments about Shaya. Shaya was by far the best big player on the court (Miami had Kai James and another highly-rated 6-5 player), and Moncrief (and another Florida guard) made a highly-rated Iowa State recruit, Jada Buckley, look very raw, as though she had never played against a good guard. Until you have watched that game, it would be appropriate to remain silent about OU's need for a big player.
I also watched the state finals with Derica Wyatt. She is far superior than some that members on this board are touting. We just don't know her competition, nor do we know the competition of some of those being touted. Don't overlook the players that Sherri recruited. She had her reasons.
I thought it was interesting that Sherri brought James and Moncrief in for a visit after watching them against Iowa. But, Moncrief and Kellogg were the two best players on the floor, and it was obvious that it wasn't just for one game.
