Guys are still trying to make the NBA. It’s just that they now have a great fallback option if it seems like they’ll get picked in the first round.

And since the NBA and ncaa are completely separate entities, and each nil deal is negotiated individually and with no limits, there is no way for the NBA to do what you suggest, even if they wanted to.

I said it would not be possible. Borderline nba players are making more in college then they would being a late first round pick. My opinion that takes some of the improvement motivation, not all, but some. Just my opinion based on watching the game and talking to some coaches

los would 1000% have been on an NBA roster next season

1000% seems like a very high number. Not saying he wouldn't be on a roster but the path to a roster is a steeper hill to climb for a second rounder....although he was getting projections in the upper to middle second round so his chances are/were a little higher. I saw him as high as the #40 pick in some mocks.

yeah....i think if it was 1000%.....he would have stayed in the draft.
more likely...he was told his chances of making a roster were not so good....so he wisely chose the better of his options.

What the hell are you talking about? You asked where they would go and I directly answered you.

uzan would likely not have made an nba roster....so he could go back to houston or go overseas.
he took his best option.
you suggested nba level players are choosing to stay in college over the nba.
that ain't happening.

Ok, so you are just being willfully ignorant, which is your right. There were all sorts of writers discussing this on twitter the past couple days, listing all sorts of players who chose to return to college rather than the NBA. Michigan will be a top 5 preseason team because their stud incoming transfer pulled out of the draft even though he likely would have been a FIRST round pick. Los is one of several guys who would have definitely been drafted and had a very good chance of making a roster. But again, you can be willfully ignorant if you prefer going that route.

and you can be willfully naive believing these players are passing up their dreams to play in the nba to return to college....

Sure, because we all know no player has ever returned to college over the NBA. even before NIL. Rumor has it Tim Duncan was told he wouldn't even make a men's rec league roster after his junior year, which is why he went back to Wake. And Blake Griffin definitely wouldn't have made the league after his freshman year.

As to your point, in what way is returning to play another year "passing up their dreams to play in the NBA?" Is the NBA not going to exist in another year? Did Los and the other players who withdrew from the draft have to sign an agreement that if they return to school, they are forfeiting the ability to be drafted nexy year?

Is this really a difficult concept? Why is it hard to understand that some guys would return because (a) they can actually make more money in college next year than they would in the NBA, and (b) they can improve their draft position and therefore their first NBA contract will pay them a lot more? This is the first year where the NIL money is so high that in many cases, it exceeds what everyone outside the lottery would make.

But yeah, I am naive. I also fabricated all of the links below.

Sam presti talked about Blake being considered for the 4 pick in 2008 till he pulled out of draft. Okc got westbrook that year. I get freshmen pulling out, but benefits and negatives to both options.

Absolutely agree there are pros and cons to both. Before NIL, I would have advised any first round pick to turn pro, and understood why guys likely to go in round two would leave. But NIL changes the equation and makes coming back a much more attractive option. But my main point is that it is ridiculous for the poster to suggest that no one comes back to college when they are assured of being on an NBA roster if they stay in the draft.

1000%?? Come on Boulder. Anyone who is 1000% certain to make an NBA roster would be a 100% a 1st round pick. I love both Los and Oweh, but to me, they are both 50/50 at best to be on NBA rosters for the long haul. I do think Los has a betterchance than Oweh, because he does bring decent size at the PG position. He finally shot like he did his freshmen year this past season, which was nice to see. He did NOT shoot the ball well last year for us. Oweh is kind of a tweener to me. He would be better off if he was 6'8" or so and could play the 3/4. His shooting %'s from outside have been solid the past two years, but we all know he isn't a "shooter" per se. He is athletic and is strong and can defend and rebound. I hope he finds a home in the NBA for the long haul...I just have my doubts.

Agree with you here. I am far from an NBA guy, my knowledge is limited and I think it's primarily a clown league. However, when a guy can only get run for an average of 7 minutes per in 27 games on a team that drafted him because daddy, "the goat", is running the roster, Los would be hard pressed to make a roster drafted in the second round.

The fact you aren’t a fan and consider the best basketball league a clown league really speaks volumes to your knowledge.

1000% means he would be on 10 NBA rosters.

Agreed, all of the recent announcements about players returning to college are because they didn't get a first round guarantee from any team. Each year a guy like Los or Oweh comes back means they have to take even a larger leap in their play, because they're now competing against the players who got drafted in the second round last year and are in the NBA ecosystem (summer league, g-league, 2 way) + the players in the following draft class. You have to find a balance between taking the guaranteed NIL $ vs. getting into the NBA ecosystem and working your way up.
