Transfer Portal 2027

Might be time to tune out the men's program. They are willing to spend, but not spend spend. That will get us exactly what we have gotten the past few years, jack squat.

for those that scoff at this number ..

if OU was able to be at 15 mil for next season (which is what i expect the entire top half of the SEC to be at or around)

that is 2 mil per starter average 750 per next 5 average .. and 250k for the bottom 5 on the roster ..

that is not crazy in any way ..
OU leadership failed to realize that they can't rely solely on the OU Brand. And this is across the board, not just Joe C. Hopefully this is the start of a new era. Jordan brand and Trae Young Assistant GM were just gimmicks that the university thought kids would fall in love with.
Yeah, to both of your comments, it's frustrating how 1-2 years behind our admin and leadership have been on NIL. Even now, I think they feel that if they can up last year's budget by 30-40%, we're at $10M and that will get us where we need to be. Nah, $10M was needed LAST year. Now, looks like we need $12-15M to be competitive in the NIL space, especially for 5s, and to have starters and depth to compete into the postseason.

I love the interlocking OU, playing in the SEC, the history of our basketball program, the OU brand, Jordan brand, our NBA stars, etc. But all those mean very little to nothing when offering $1M to a 20-year-old transfer that can get $2-$2.5M to play in the same league. Someone at OU needs to wake up and look at the current environment.

I don't think it's "just about the money" for these guys, but that disparity makes a huge difference when most all other factors are equal at best.

And BTW, I gotta believe that same disparity in resources, and other support commitments, plays/played a HUGE role in why Denny decided to keep Porter Moser. Not sure he could attract many other coaches to OU for the same reasons we can't land an All-Conference type center. The financial commitment and resources aren't there.

I think the player salaries will level off in the next 2-3 years as the top donors get tired of "not getting their moneys' worth". Below is Troy Aikman's personal experience. I realize that's just one person, but there will be a tipping point. I just don't know when.

Troy Aikman announced he is "done with" donating to UCLA's Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) collectives after a negative experience, stating on the Sports Media podcast that a player he provided a "sizable check" to never thanked him, never met him, and transferred after one season. He cited a lack of accountability and personal gratitude as reasons for his decision.

I am in favor of hiring the best coach $150k will buy, the the best assistants $75K will buy, and the best kids we can get for a scholarship and $3k a month and free health insurance, and then would be happy to live with however many wins that would get us, if any. I would be very understanding of a the team was unable to compete with most college teams. Any revenue generated over total costs, I would want turned over to the school to support a reduction in tuition for all students.
0-30 every year and the team would lose money a lot of it ..

when football goes to a cba they will make way more money then they do now ..

this is exactly correct .. OU football is not the top offer for lots of guys we got .. but they are in the ballpark .. and that is where you have to be ..

This is exactly the blue print for Oklahoma. The football program is doing it right and we are getting elite talent without being the top spender although the fb program has plenty of money to spend.

I think we are still transitioning in the BBall program to this model and still playing catch up but there are signs of improvement. That may be a reason moser is still here. Focus on getting the organization up to speed and then focus on hiring the right coach. If we do it right, we will be much more attractive to the next coach. I don’t agree with keeping moser but I can understand it if the plan works in the end.

A blue blood in football, you get the benefit of the doubt. In basketball, OU is not one, so that benefit doesn't really apply. Especially given how average OU has been over the last 5 years (only 1 tourney appearance).

Lusk mentioned we had a zoom meeting with Terrence Hill Jr. from VCU, says he should have more info soon on a possible visit.
