Transfer Portal 2027

Man that list from Lusk is depressing. I just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. And it again seems like there is no consistent strategy or approach here. This really could shape up as our worst roster under Moser, which is saying something when you look back at his first couple years.
Denny should be publicly shamed if we end up with a terrible roster.

Some of our biggest concerns just shining its stupid face at us again.

What is our roster construction and why? It never makes any sense every year. Moser has no identity for the team and it is frustrating as all get out to see.

By Evan Miya

1. Pack - 86
2. Wague - 151
3. Jones - 203

4. Brown - 262
5. Davis - 363
--Khani Rooths - 456
-- Tyler Hendricks - 724
6. Reid - 732
7. Kuol Atak - 1,002
8. Dayton Forsythe - 1,111
9. Rogers - NR
10. JN - NR

Reid was 6th last year.
I guess advanced stats says brown is 4th, but he way more important to the team then Wague or jones. Have a hard time with eye test on that one.

If the mystery center doesn't exist or has decided to go elsewhere, we will somehow be even worse at that position than we have been the past five years. And while I want to believe the GM can uncover some under the radar guys who exceed expectations, you don't want to build an entire roster around "hidden gems" or value plays. I mean, especially when you don't have a good coach to get the most out of guys.

In the current environment, it is hard to know who, or whether, anyone should be blamed. I want us to stay within a budget we can afford. I don't want us to overspend, meaning using educational funds for a sport. Basketball and all other sports should, IMO, be operated within the amount of money they generate, as supplemented by donor gifts for that sport. As for the non revenue sports that don't generate any funds, I don't have a problem with them getting money generated by football, within reason. But again, if we can't afford to give them money from athletic department revenue, then make them club sports.

I suppose I may seem like it, but I'm not the biggest porter moser fan. I think, being fair, he is a good but not great coach. I don't think he is a bad coach. For lots of reasons, I don't like the idea of a University willy nilly changing out coaches prior to the end of the contracts we have given them except for misconduct cause.

So, is Moser, or Denny for that matter, responsible for the lack of funds needed to get ranked kids out of the portal? I just don't know. It might be that they are just operating within a financial framework that make that not possible. If so, then I don't place any blame on them or anyone else. It is what it is. My point is none of us have really good information on this stuff. How much are the current kids getting? What is the true market price of good kids? What is our real budget? Just so many questions where we don't have good information. It is frustrating for all of us.

Hopefully we get a roster completed pretty soon and we can all dig in and decide what we think of it. Like I have previously said, I like what we have so far. Just worried about not getting what else we need.

Of the players Lusk mentioned, I like Reese the best. Not a big fan of Issacs. Conflicted on what I think of Barrett. He can be a really good defender and helps a lot with rebounding but doesn't shoot very well.

Like whoever above stated, I think the 5 year deal, if it goes in to effect, could help due to teams having already filled up. I wonder what the odds of that going into effect is?

Put another way, we lost our three best players, 4 of our top 5 players, and 5 of our top 6 if you count the Russian.

Simply retaining Brown, Reid, Rogers, and Forsythe isn't enough. This roster needed considerable talent from the Portal to replace the guys that left. Doesn't look like we're going to get it.
You are foolish if you didn't think X was one of our three best players. Reid is a good defender imo. We returned 2 of our starters and saying he wasn't one of the top 6 players warrants the end of this 'debate'

I view Rogers in a much much better light than many of you. Guess we will see. I wanted Porter to play he and Jones a lot more than he did all year.
It's laughable how people who claim to be ball knowers think freshman bigs become impact stars immediately. Unless they are NBA bound after a year it usually takes a year or two. Look at the Florida guys over the last two years, Estrella from UT, Reed from Uconn (Illinois transfer), Wague (IMO).

There isn't a stat on the planet that would consider Reid a good defender. His defense is the main thing that drags down his overall rating as a player.

I have said for over a year I expected nothing of value from Kai this season, as have many others given his lack of athletic ability, among other things. The problem with your argument is twofold: one, as of now, we don't have any other centers on the roster. And two, we can't wait another couple years for him to develop. Moser should be coaching for his job this season. If he is in our rotation, he needs to be good, now.

Better than Tae Davis on defense. And Pack
He’s not nearly as good as Tae defensively at this point. He has the potential to be good but he was sleepy on that end for the majority of the year. Davis guarded 1-5 and was often given the assignment of the opponent’s best offensive player.

I know Tae was everyone’s favorite to hate because of the perimeter shooting, or he’d make a dumb play here & there, miss some bunnies, etc., but he was overall very good defensively this season.

Meh. This is unfortunately a throw away year for basketball. He should only be shamed if football also fails to make the playoffs and then after, we hire our next coach. I 0% believe that Denny wants to keep moser long term. Hes making a business decision this year to prop up football

And I am faster than my next door neighbor. That doesn't make me fast. And he actually didn't rate higher than either of those guys in the EvanMiya ratings.
EvanMiya must be some trillionaire if all his data is 100% accurate when measuring college basketball players. We should use his and only his metrics.

how does a disastrous/failed basketball season prop up football?

I knew you weren't fast ... (😉)

All kidding aside, I am just sad at our offseason. Then I think, this is probably Moser's last year ... but then I also think ... imagine having a new coach 2 years ago. It is a roller coaster of emotions.
