Transfer Portal 2027

I'm jumping the gun a bit, but from the names I'm seeing, we're definitely taking a step backwards with talent, not forward. I think I've seen one name connected with us that actually moves the needle.

I know, it's early. Spare me the lecture.

While I don't disagree, I'm hopeful that at least means we are, in fact, keeping X/Reid/Rogers/Dayton. Of course, we still need to improve, and I'm also hopeful we're not getting the full scoop and there are other players being discussed behind the scenes.

New names to monitor for us per Lusk:

DJ Wagner - zoomed on Wednesday

Devin Royal - zoomed on Thursday

Still keeping a watch on Mingo and DJ Thomas, expected to zoom with both at some point

crystal ball on royal is 100% uconn

I asked Grok to see what snoopy info he had cheating around paywalls. All it would talk about was a Zoom with Hill that it said was confirmed contact... with very little documentation.

Perhaps hard to get players to want to play for a coach who is on his last legs.
A lot of these kids are simply 1-year mercenary hires. If we are willing to meet their financial demands, they would come. Is the VCU guard worth the $3MM he is asking for?? I guess that's the real question.

I asked for a summary. AI is way too positive by nature. It summarized so I dont think it outright stole anything and provided source info. I think it follows board rules...

Yes—Oklahoma basketball (under Porter Moser and new GM Lucas McKay) has been aggressive in the early 2026 transfer portal window (opened ~April 7), with confirmed early contacts, Zooms, and rumors tied to several high-upside players. 247sports.com

No commitments have been announced yet (as of April 10), and the Sooners have multiple roster holes to fill after losing key pieces to eligibility, graduation, and the portal (e.g., Nijel Pack exhausted eligibility; outgoing transfers include Jeff Nwankwo, Kuol Atak, Jake Hansen, and Andreas Holst). Here are the players with the strongest public rumors or reported OU outreach right now:Confirmed/Strong Early Contacts
  • Terrence Hill Jr. (6'3" guard, VCU → portal): One of the top overall portal players (No. 16 overall, No. 6 PG). Breakout scorer (15.7 PPG, efficient shooter) who exploded for 34 points in VCU’s NCAA Tournament upset over North Carolina. OU conducted a Zoom with him on Wednesday, April 8 (first reported by On3’s Brody Lusk and confirmed by Sooners Illustrated/247Sports). He’s a priority target, and OU is battling “blue blood” programs for him.

  • Terrence Brown (guard, Utah): Averaged 19.9 PPG and shot 45% from three this season (No. 40 overall portal player, No. 8 combo guard). Oklahoma has reached out/made contact. He’s drawn interest from many power programs (UNC, USC, Louisville, etc.).
    oklahoman.com

  • Tomas Thrastarson (6'7" guard/forward, Washington State): Averaged 8.8 PPG and 4.1 RPG as a sophomore with two years left. Oklahoma has reached out (per multiple reports). He’s also hearing from Indiana, Virginia, and others.

Other Speculated/Potential Targets (from early-roundup reporting)These were highlighted in pre-/early-portal analysis as fits for OU’s needs (shooting, size, experience):
  • Jerry Easter II (guard, USC): Former four-star; brings guard size (6'5") and scoring upside.
  • Oswin Erhunmwunse (center, Providence): One of the top bigs available (6'10", 6.9 PPG/8.3 RPG, strong rebounder/blocker). OU showed prior recruiting interest in high school.
  • Karter Knox (forward, Arkansas): 2024 McDonald’s All-American and former top recruit seeking a fresh start (8.1 PPG/4.5 RPG before injury).

Latest update (as of April 10): Brody Lusk posted a “Friday portal update” noting two new players OU has conducted Zooms with, plus notes on a top-25 transfer set to Zoom soon. Details are on the OUInsider board (insider content), but it confirms the staff is moving quickly on multiple fronts. @BrodyLusk

Everything is still very fluid—just 3–4 days into the window—so new names could surface daily with visits or offers. OU’s NIL resources and Big 12/SEC-adjacent positioning make them competitive for guards and versatile wings/big men. Keep an eye on 247Sports, On3, OUInsider, or Brody Lusk’s updates for the latest. If you want details on any specific name above (stats, fit, etc.), just say!

College sports leaders have consistently made it all about money for the past 30+ years. Now the players are allowed to do the same. And you can bet your rear they are going to make it all about money, too.

Newsflash: OU basketball are broke boys. BMDs don’t care enough about this sport at OU and never have.

Lusk just mentioned he feels good about Rogers and Forsythe, but no mention of Reid.

Some of that is on the coach. Nobody wants to support a) a loser, and b) a coach that they don't like on a personal level.

Some of you won't like "b" above. I'm not saying Moser isn't a decent enough guy. He seems to be. But TO ME, he doesn't seem very likeable. Or personable. Or the kind of guy I'd want to donate to to make sure he succeeds.

OU has a LOT of likeable coaches. People LOVE Venables, for example. We need the basketball version of that.

Such a cluster. Rogers and Forsythe would be the least productive out of the foursome of those two and Brown/Reid.

If we lose Brown and Reid, again, I'd fire Moser on the spot. Heck, I'd probably fire him if he can't keep just Brown (Scott).

it's all about the $$.
rogers/forsythe would be good keeps at the right price.
brown/reid would be bad keeps at the wrong price.

Sometimes you have to overpay. We can't bargain shop every year. Random numbers, but if we value Brown at $700k and he wants $900k to stay, sometimes, in SOME situations, you gotta find a way to pay the guy the $900k. You can't lose all of your good players because they ask for a little big more than our valuation system has them at. We paid Pack a pretty good amount. Davis wasn't cheap either. Coupled with Denny opening his mouth about more resources, we should have the money to either retain our two best players or adequately replace them.

but you said you'd fire crup moser on the spot if he loses brown/reid.
just because they played here a season doesn't make them more valuable or irreplaceable.
that's not how it works anymore.
you go get the best players with the money you have to spend.
i think crup moser did reasonably good job of that last year. unfortunately his coaching....or lack thereof....failed to get the expected results.

Lusk mentioning some names:

Jeremiah Wilkinson - conducted a zoom, but LSU is team to beat

T.O. Barrett - in the mix along with Georgia, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State, conducted zooms with him

Jalil Bethea - involved because of Scott connection, likely viewed as a bench piece

Brown is a very unique situation. We hired his freaking step dad as a coach. Nothing about that situation screamed a one year deal to me. We were told Brown came here to take on the Fears role (whether last season or next season). There is ZERO chance we were his highest offer last year. To me, it screams something other than money if they pack their bags after one year and hit the road. You can disagree.

And now, we're utterly and entirely EFFED if we lose Brown and Reid on top of what we've lost. No way Moser can survive a COMPLETE rebuild again. No way he'll bring in guys that on paper can even match up with what we rostered last year.

THAT is why keeping Brown and Reid is so imperative. There is value in bringing guys back. It takes Moser's teams forever to play well, and you are saying it's not a big deal if we have to replace our top 7 guys. That is crazy.
