I'm jumping the gun a bit, but from the names I'm seeing, we're definitely taking a step backwards with talent, not forward. I think I've seen one name connected with us that actually moves the needle.

While I don't disagree, I'm hopeful that at least means we are, in fact, keeping X/Reid/Rogers/Dayton. Of course, we still need to improve, and I'm also hopeful we're not getting the full scoop and there are other players being discussed behind the scenes.

A lot of these kids are simply 1-year mercenary hires. If we are willing to meet their financial demands, they would come. Is the VCU guard worth the $3MM he is asking for?? I guess that's the real question.

College sports leaders have consistently made it all about money for the past 30+ years. Now the players are allowed to do the same. And you can bet your rear they are going to make it all about money, too.

Some of that is on the coach. Nobody wants to support a) a loser, and b) a coach that they don't like on a personal level.
Some of you won't like "b" above. I'm not saying Moser isn't a decent enough guy. He seems to be. But TO ME, he doesn't seem very likeable. Or personable. Or the kind of guy I'd want to donate to to make sure he succeeds.
OU has a LOT of likeable coaches. People LOVE Venables, for example. We need the basketball version of that.

Such a cluster. Rogers and Forsythe would be the least productive out of the foursome of those two and Brown/Reid.
If we lose Brown and Reid, again, I'd fire Moser on the spot. Heck, I'd probably fire him if he can't keep just Brown (Scott).
it's all about the $$.
rogers/forsythe would be good keeps at the right price.
brown/reid would be bad keeps at the wrong price.

Sometimes you have to overpay. We can't bargain shop every year. Random numbers, but if we value Brown at $700k and he wants $900k to stay, sometimes, in SOME situations, you gotta find a way to pay the guy the $900k. You can't lose all of your good players because they ask for a little big more than our valuation system has them at. We paid Pack a pretty good amount. Davis wasn't cheap either. Coupled with Denny opening his mouth about more resources, we should have the money to either retain our two best players or adequately replace them.
but you said you'd fire crup moser on the spot if he loses brown/reid.
just because they played here a season doesn't make them more valuable or irreplaceable.
that's not how it works anymore.
you go get the best players with the money you have to spend.
i think crup moser did reasonably good job of that last year. unfortunately his coaching....or lack thereof....failed to get the expected results.

Brown is a very unique situation. We hired his freaking step dad as a coach. Nothing about that situation screamed a one year deal to me. We were told Brown came here to take on the Fears role (whether last season or next season). There is ZERO chance we were his highest offer last year. To me, it screams something other than money if they pack their bags after one year and hit the road. You can disagree.
And now, we're utterly and entirely EFFED if we lose Brown and Reid on top of what we've lost. No way Moser can survive a COMPLETE rebuild again. No way he'll bring in guys that on paper can even match up with what we rostered last year.
THAT is why keeping Brown and Reid is so imperative. There is value in bringing guys back. It takes Moser's teams forever to play well, and you are saying it's not a big deal if we have to replace our top 7 guys. That is crazy.
