Re: Rumor: James Transferring?

yeah he showed some of that both on the bench and on the floor last season. I think he came into the season with a huge weight on his shoulders thinking it was gonna be on him to pick up Buddy's share of the load - and he just wasn't up to the task then it snowballed.

He most certainly has the talent to be an impact player, but now he's dealing with head issues over past conduct and a new start might help him.

Buddy's share of the load was also Isaiah and Spangler. so, maybe some thing there. CJ had a bad year. whatever reason.

i think James can be a very good player for OU.

i've posted this before, but i went to an open practice in October and CJ was the best player on the floor.

things change, maybe. but i think he can come back and Lon is a guy for that.

if not, so be it.

I agree with everything you said. CJ performed so well toward the end of our final four run, everyone, including me, expected him to hit the ground running as a sophomore. And, he did just that. Through the first ten games of the season he was playing well and shooting better than 50% from three.

That was before the wheels came off and his shooting stroke went south. Was it a coincidence that his shooting slump began with the first game Jordan Woodard was out with an injury? Not in my opinion. I was convinced back then and still am that he put so much pressure on himself to perform at a high level in Jordan's absence, he made matters worse.

Self-inflicted pressure can be a horrible thing for a basketball player who relies on his perimeter shooting. Good shooters usually work out of their slump by continuing to shoot until they find their stroke (also called "confidence") again. Christian never did, at least on a consistent basis.

I still believe there is a reason for hope. He played better in the last few games of the season. If he finds his stroke again, I'm confident he can make a major contribution to the team next season. For that reason, if no other, I want him to stay.

Re: Rumor: James Transferring?

that was DSM but I guess it could be CJ too. I'd rather lose CJ and keep DSM.

I know it's been said by others, but this is absurd. A backup 2 with 2 years of eligibility and higher upside vs. a third-string 1 with 1 year left. And James averaged twice as many points as DSM while shooting better from 3 and the FT line last year.

Re: Rumor: James Transferring?

I don't get to worked up any player or coach leaving, if they don't want to be here just say thanks and good luck.

I do respect when someone is willing to step up and say it's not working and they want to try another direction vice just settling in and letting a rift build.

Consider the source.. a common theme and the posts speak for themselves :ez-roll:

why can't it just be people with differing views instead of you making it personal? thats pretty much a dickish comment.

Re: Rumor: James Transferring?

Other transfers:

Five-star recruit Jeremiah Tilmon posted on social media he has asked for a release from his National Letter of Intent to play for Illinois.

Tilmon, 6-foot-10, is a five-star recruit who also had offers from Michigan State, North Carolina, Kansas, Indiana, Texas and UCLA.

... Brothers K.J. and Dedric Lawson are transferring from Memphis.

Dedric Lawson, a 6-foot-9 guard/forward, averaged 19.2 points and 9.9 rebounds..K.J. Lawson, a 6-7 guard/forward, averaged 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds.

Didn't one of those Lawson guys score about 60 against us this season? He just killed us.

That said, I'd bet they're a package deal so it wouldn't work with us having only 1 scholarship available.

Dang! The Lawson boys combined for 45 points and 25 rebounds when we played Memphis last season. Wonder why they want to transfer?

I suspect Tubby's coaching style is different that Pastner's.

I'm sure you're right. One would think a wise old coach like Tubby might be willing to adjust his style just a little to keep two studs like the Lawson's from searching for greener pastures.

Yup. Think Prince Fowler and Kelvin Sampson. Still, that is a humungous loss for Memphis.

As for Mr. James, I'm glad that the rumors appear to be false...hope the young man gets his confidence back.

It's interesting that Tilmon is asking for a release from his commitment because the Illini's recruiting class, one of the best in the country, had to be a factor in Underwood's taking that job and leaving OSU. Obviously, the big raise he got was a big factor as well but one of the things that had to make that job seem so appealing (as opposed to other jobs he could have pursued as well) was their incoming recruiting class.

Re: Rumor: James Transferring?

mizzou for tilmon i think.

Re: Rumor: James Transferring?

Tubby demoted their dad from assistant coach to "player development". Their younger brother is a 5 star, would basically guarantee you that some garbage program like Mizzou will hire their dad as an NCAA legal bribe to get the kids.

Mizzou is garbage. Bet they don't even make the tournament next yea with all the LSU $EC hype

Mizzou might be pretty tough. Combine Tilmon with Michael Porter and his brother, and that's loaded. I don't know what they have coming back at the guard positions but a lot of guards would want to play with that group.

Agreed. Mizzou was really young last year. Assuming no one transferred after the season was over, seven of their top scorers, all but one freshmen and sophomores, will be back. Add a future super star like Michael Porter to go with Tilmon and the younger Porter brother, should he decide to reclassify, and Mizzou could be a dramatically better team next season.
