Travis Ford signed a Juco shotblocker over OU?

I did a little homework on this during the season. There are still good players in JUCO, there are just fewer of them. There are definitely some JUCO guys that could help OU (not necessarily available at this point, but in the 2014 class). Like I said, the numbers are just fewer.

Heck, it was only a couple of years ago that Pierre Jackson was the #62 rated JUCO in the nation. He did pretty well, no?

The big Juco kid from CA that OU had 2 years ago that was maybe 6'9 or '10 hardly got off the bench on 2 years.

Osu just lost there best guard... Terrell asked and was granted his release

Why would they release the kid with no coaching change?

Because it does no one any good to keep someone hostage who wants to leave? Just because you're allowed to be total pricks doesn't mean you have to be.

If coaches start letting kids out of signed scholarships, before they ever set foot on campus, with no reason (coaching change, family member becoming ill), recruiting is going to turn into a NIGHTMARE.

I asked b/c this NEVER happens. I use the word never knowing it probably has, but I honestly cannot come up with a single example of a kid signing his LOI, and asking for a release before even attending school there, without one of the examples above happening. Simply doesn't happen. Not fair to OSU. They stopped recruiting SG's. Thought they were done. And now they aren't? Meh. That isn't right.

I agree at the end of the day the kid is going to get to leave osu, but I wouldn't release him until the first semester started, or I'd make him transfer.

Not sure of the reason.. Could be a closer to home issue.

Jackson was named njcaa POY and ranked #1 in juco.

The Juco Junction "rankings" I saw showed him 62nd. The ranking really doesn't matter though. I was just pointing out that there are still difference makers in Juco ball.

They're better off letting him walk and taking the hit than keeping around a guy who really doesn't want to be there. You know this doesn't happen unless Ford tried to change his mind first and couldn't.

Farm more difference makers at guard than in the post IMO. You can find a lot of high quality starters at guard and on the wing from the juco level (Cleanthony Early is a more recent example of that). There are even some really good post guys (Ricardo Ratliffe for example). But those guys are rare. Ratliffe was a 30 point per game scorer and national player of the year.

If you recruit juco stars, you're going to get major conference contributors with all-conference potential. If you're recruiting juco contributors, though, you're probably getting a role player at best.

I'm not buying it. There is something more to this story.

Death of his Gma and to be closer to home was the reason for the release.

Ford is out in Cali recruiting another guard. The JUCO guy doesn't have to come in and be an All-Star, but it would be nice if he was good enough to play at least a little.
