Tre Evans

They've been guys that needed to develop. Juco players that hardly play. Manyang who many thought would start going into the season doesn't even see the floor.

I would much rather take Evans who just got a triple double and is on an undefeated team over another juco guard in Strong.

Seeing how that's Kruger's specialty I think that's a good thing. Not very many freshman this year would be starting for us who we had a realistic chance of getting.

Just because he got a triple-double on an undefeated team doesn't mean he will translate to OU. Have you seen him play? I believe he is good mid-major or low power 5 conference. jmo

I agree. We cant take every d1 kid that comes from Oklahoma, sure we are going to miss on some and some will outwork their "rankings" it happens every year.

Yes especially when we have a backup coming for the next 2 years, we need a guy who can come in and start from day 1 when Woodard leaves.

Mizzou is recruiting him now. So he's now no longer a mid major recruit.

I wouldn't say getting one or two P5 offers makes a guy "no longer a mid-major".

Think of it like OU football recruiting. Some years we miss out on a bunch of guys down the stretch, and we end up offering some guy that had offers from TU and NMS, or something like that. Doesn't mean that guy still isn't a mid-major type recruit. Just means OU wanted the depth, and chose to offer a guy that likely had no chance of starting.

I am assuming this is Terry Evans' son. Is that correct?

I have not seen him play and do not pretend to be a scout; however, I would remind everyone that Tubbs gave Terry Evans a scholarship when he was a borderline player. As a redshirting freshman he was abused by Mookie in practice and Tubbs commented that he was very concerned he made a big mistake with that scholarship. I personally heard Tubbs say that on the radio. Things turned out well for Terry Evans.

He is number two in career field goals. He holds the career assist record. He is number 16 on career scoring. Not bad for a kid that maybe didn't deserve a scholarship coming out of high school.

I will trust the staff to make the correct decisions but thought the history with Terry might interest some.

Its just this staff. He has very few d1 offers. SO... I guess they are all dumb.

I didn't remotely say this staff or any other staff was dumb. I merely pointed out his dad (assuming this is Terry Evans' son) was a borderline player and Tubbs was concerned that he should not have given him a scholarship but it turned out really well for OU.

I have no clue if Tre Evans deserves a scholarship to OU or any major D-I school. Given that nobody is offering, perhaps he doesn't . I am not sure how you took my comments to be an insult to the OU staff or any other staff. People don't get paid big money to coach college basketball because they lack ability. These coaches know way more about basketball than me.

I had the same thoughts. Good post.

I'm sure if circumstances were different -- if we didn't have 2 senior guards, (4 year starters graduating) and a 3 year starter set to graduate next year maybe they take a flyer on the kid.

As an older OU basketball fan, I think it would kind of cool if Tre Evans did play for the Sooners even as a walk-on. He would probably be the only 3rd generation family member to play for OU. You guys are talking about Tre's father, Terry Evans, but his grandfather Eddie Evans was a 3-year starter from 1960-1963. When he finished playing he was the 3rd leading scorer in OU history (they didn't play many games back then). I didn't watch Eddie play but I remember him coaching for years in the OKC area in the old Capital Conference. Terry actually followed in Eddie's footsteps as a player and coach. Eddie Evans

What amazes me is that you think every player he brings in is a homerun. He's had several misses. There's a reason why he has yet to have a deep team since he's been here. Every player he's brought in besides buddy and d1 transfers have been projects.

Just because Evans has very few offers doesn't mean he's not going to be a good college player. This state has produced alot of kids that ou and OSU have not offered that have turned out to be solid college players. This kid could be one or he might not be. Long is another kid. Either way, you don't have to get so defensive over us talking about a recruit Kruger isn't offering.

I wouldn't call Cousins or Woodard "projects".

Let's not forget he inherited a program with ZERO depth inside. One of his starters was a D1 transfer which the previous coach didn't even offer, and he's been one of our better players even though he's had to play out of position most of his career due to, again, no depth.

The only players I would call projects are Cole and the big white kid from the California JUCO. I think McNeace will end up a really good player by the time he's done and Lattin will be even better.

They need to be selective with the scholarship offers. We can have 13 on scholarship and we have 12 so far for 2016-2017, and have 2 seniors (AK and Woodard). That means we have 3 schollies to give for 2017-2018.

Brady Manek is already a 2017 commit. We have an offer out to Marques Bolden (2016) and Trae Young (2017). I don't want to get too anxious now and not have anything to give to those guys when they decide to commit.

You're right about Woodard but I still think cousins was a project. Kruger has done a really good job with him. And the fact that he was moved to the pg position this year is another reason I consider him a project. Great coaching and development.

I agree. But a lot of things could happen. Bolden could be one and done. We could have a transfer. And we could cut ties with manek if we land these big time recruits. Don't jump down my throat about manek, I'm just saying, we have ifs

If this has been a team full of projects, then Kruger has done a really good job with those projects. I think of projects as kids like Oleg Retzov. Great kid and really good basketball player but perhaps not Big XII good without some major improvement. In Oleg's case, it never happened but he was an outstanding team mate that made his grades, stayed out of trouble and worked hard. I suppose reasonable minds may differ on what is a project.

Oleg wasn't a project, he was a kid you keep around b/c he does the right thing, makes good grades, and doesn't complain about playing time. Simple as that. Not even Kelvin thought he could coach that kid into somebody deserving of playing time.

It's not Kruger's style to pull scholarships, but I think transfers are a way of life in college basketball now. I expect 1 or 2 almost every year. Kids want to play even if they get recruited over.

I don't think every cat is a hom run. I think they all serve a purpose. What frustrates me is you and several others bash bash and bash and occasionally you'll be correct.

Some are so unrealistic that you want us to offer and take every Okla kid. That's not possible and we would've be wear we are if he had taken all the Okla kids.

You choose tre Evans or Austin grandstaff
