Truth bomb

I didn't mean like poty dominate. But a 6'6 post man getting 12 points a game and i remember he really took it another level up in conference, whereas if he had played the same in OOC he would have probably averaged more around 15. Which is crazy given his physical limitations.

Point is, Spangs can and should be able to score inside. He is a much more gifted player

I think Carter was known more for having an inside scoring game whereas Spangler has never really been known for that. He can rebound with the best of them but he doesn't have the footwork or the moves to play down low like Carter could.

Carter would really help this team as his offensive game was more like Thomas but smaller.

Thanks chuckb, Sooner95, KBaden (and a few others) for bringing a little sanity to this thread. As for some others, you really need to lay off the caffeine or ask your MD for a Prozac script. Geez, guys, the sky hasn't fallen and the season isn't over yet.

I agree about the blocking out part. We often just go to a spot. We are good enough to get away with it most of the time but it can cost us at clutch time when the other team starts crashing the boards.

We actually are not an excellent FT shooting team. Look it up.

We may know that villanova is a joke as we throttled them and they have played a horrific schedule but i guarantee they will get a 1 seed at this point. That's what gonzaga does all the time

We are an excellent FT shooting team. We currently rank #57 out of 346 DI NCAA teams in the nation at 73.2% I'd say that's pretty good.

I never said Nova wouldn't get a #1 seed, you're right there probably a lock, but I'll take the bets they get knocked out after the Sweet16.

I dont care how many D1 cal northridge teams there are. #57 isn't good enough. We've been better every year the last 3 seasons i guarantee

All I'm saying is were not that bad. You are correct, it's a worst FT% since 2011-12. Over the past 6 seasons we were actually in the top 30 four times. I didn't know that.

why is that interesting, we have taken 100 more threes than 2nd place in the conference. You don't get fouled often on threes

Yea maybe we shouldn't be taking so many so we can shoot more FTs....

Dominated? 11.6 points a game on a team that went 6-10 in conference play?

Hyperbole is a foot. And I'm with you in that it was obviously emphasized to get the ball to Spangler underneath the arc. Looking forward to more of that on Saturday.

Haven't posted here in a long while, but I wanted to defend Nate Carter. He basically didn't play in non-conference and averaged something like 4 points per game before conference play because Jeff Capel is an idiot. In conference he averaged around 18 and 8 and pretty much single-handedly won those six games. He was also third-team All Big 12. Maybe dominate isn't the right word, but it's not a ridiculous one either.

I don't recall Carter not seeing much action before conference play; I do remember him not playing well. The light went on for him somehow, and he was great the rest of the way but until that point, he underperformed.

16 and 7, in conference, his senior year.

Memories are fuzzy, but we can look this up!
In non-conference games from 2006.

Memphis - 16 minutes
Norfolk St. - 17
Liberty - 22
Purdue - 16
Chaminade - 6
TCU - 26
Villanova - 9
UT Arlington - 4
Tulsa - 3
SMU - 10
Alabama - 18 (this was the final non-conference game)

Most of the games he received double digit minutes were either blowouts or there was foul trouble or something. In Big 12 games he played 27, 26, 28, and then it went up from there.

It isn't like Capel had a realization that Carter was a great matchup for the Big 12 though. In non-conference he was the fourth big after Longar, Taylor, and Keith Clark. Clark tore his ACL in the second to last conference game against SMU. Only then did Carter really get a shot.

Thanks. The only source I could find for averages was an article in late-February after a four-game winning streak and before the big collapse that year.

I agree with much of the OP's message.

Wondered about AK's pt. I know there were many positives put out about McNease at the start of the season and then he didnt get the pt one would think he was destined to get.

Our defense is HORRENDOUS. I wouldnt let my 5th graders play like that. Thats such a huge mistake ... especially given how hot they were offensively to start the season. You know thats not gonna keep up all season and it's your DEFENSE that travels well and will save you on the road.

Spangler hurt his leg. His offense went to crap. And everyone else's followed suit.
