(EXCERPT) Cole kept up both pursuits with the encouragement of Kruger (Cole: “He wants us in the gym, but he also wants us in the books”) and his professors. The rewards could be measured by OU’s increasing number of wins the past three years, the steady number of A’s Cole cranked out in the classroom, and by something less tangible.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever been on a team that gets along so well,” Cole said. “There’s usually a couple guys that kind of don’t want to be a part of the whole thing. But everybody wanted to be a part of everything this year. Nobody was selfish. Everybody was doing it for each other.”

Cole roomed with Cousins his freshman year, then Jordan Woodard as a sophomore. He eventually moved off campus with Ryan Spangler and James Fraschilla, with Daniel Harper replacing the graduated Fraschilla this year.

Cole will miss the whole lot of them.

“It’s been a fun four years,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed this.”
