Twitter Facts - Recruiting Impact

I think we can all agree Baylor is OU's biggest regional recruiting threat and definitely OU's biggest on court adversary.
Their ascension the last 6 years has come at OU's expense.
So I've been arguing that Sherri/WBB has been doing a lousy job to use Twitter to promote their program from a recruiting standpoint/social media impact.
Well here are the facts.
Mulkey - 1181 Tweets, 21.7 K followers
Coale - 1 Tweet, 6 k followers (desperately waiting to hearing something anything from Sherri)
OU WBB - 12.6 K Tweets, 16.5k followers (demand and interest is there)
Baylor WBB - 9443 Tweets, 32.5 k followers (does Baylor really have twice the
supports of OU?)

Comparison
Bob's Twitter 1426 Tweets, 152 K followers

Lon's Twitter 1283 Tweets, 25.3K followers

Coale refused to adapt with the times and it's cost the program big time.

I don't operate under any illusion about
Bob/Lon they have an admin run their twitter. That admin getting
personal comments from Bob/Lon as needed for instance when a verbal
happens.
I don't think Mulkey is working Twitter either.

The fact that Sherri does not designate someone to use her twitter account to keep in touch with possible recruits proves she refuses to adapt to what the kids are doing. If she is not going to put herself out there with how recruits communicate and keep in touch then she isn't on their radar on a regular basis.

Hypothetical: Mulkey had half a grapefruit for breakfast every morning for the last six years. Sherri had grapefruit for breakfast only once a year during that six-year period. So is that another reason why Mulkey's teams won more games/conference titles than Sherri's teams during that period?

No one is under the illusion that Stoops is watching twitter 24/7.

But at least someone is watching it for him that keeps up with what is going on in recruits lives.

Isn't that important on some level?

Thanks Mac. And they are doing it without being misleading/dishonest. I for one like that.

Some are ostriches by burying their heads in the sand and wanting to mislead recruits - and thinking the recruits are dumb-dumbs.

He messages kids all the time using all platforms.
I keep talking about the radical changes Bob made in football recruiting. His own personal
level of involvement was change 1.


And the WBB twitter account is after years of neglect finally getting going.
But as I am constantly reminded by folks here.
Sherri is the HOF coach who built OU women's hoops. She's the brand name.
She should be front and center on Twitter as the brand leader.

So far the 2 defenses of Sherri not using Twitter are

1. Grapefruits
2. Bob's answer about social media years ago when the current reality is completely different.

Again, I ask do any of you claiming Twitter has no impact actually use Twitter?

Sorry to frustrate you Atlanta, but it was a couple of months ago when a press guy was crediting him with lines like you just posted.

Come on, Atlanta.

Bob has publicly told everyone he does not use social media. Even with that I suspect he probably messages to his family. friends. etc.

But he is not trying to hide the fact he does not have time for all that - so uses others to do so. That is not lying. And there is no excuse for recruits to be mislead.

Our conversation here is that SHERRI should be spending several hours per day chatting and twittering around. She is not doing that - and it is doubtful many - extremely busy - other coaches are either. It is some of our posters who are continually pressing for that.

They seem to want her to mislead recruits into thinking she is doing that.

I clearly said an admin could be doing it Sherri, combined with Sherri using
it as a very effective communication medium.

No one is talking about Sherri misleading recruits. You are???

And Bob does use social media effectively to recruit. Find me a quote from the last 4 years that says otherwise.

And none of you are admitting the factual problem.
1 tweet, 6 k followers. That's a massive problem. People, fans, parents of recruits, ????, possible players, donors, are looking Sherri up on Twitter and following her. No content.
Not 100 lost people, 6 thousand.

These constant rants about the lack of effort and modernization of Sherri Coale might come off appearing a bit more sane if they contained a sense of reality and balance. Sherri tends to come off as someone from the thirties who is still awaiting the development of the telephone, which actually reflects on her recruits as well. Yet, we know that the families, other than the malcontents, indicate that OU is very good at remaining current with them. We also tend to get an impression that these are not trivial little children trying to follow the local version of Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton, but rather astute young women capable of teaching English as a second language while many are not quite grasping of its use as a first. I listen to Vionise Pierre-Louise and think that she is quite accomplished in two languages, hardly one who would be persuaded by trivialities.

Indeed, they are all in Haiti this week which should be an indication that they are quite aware of the issues of the day and are quite productive in taking action about them. I just can't see Sherri or these young women being lost in the tarpits of triviality. While our seniors never developed the basketball success that I had hoped, I was rather impressed by their success stories of accomplishment during their years at OU.

There may be reasons to be concerned. But, constant accusations of premature indolence or dementia by Sherri just don't see to be indicative of the woman who had to fight the jungles of negativity just to develop a program in the first place. I hardly think she is so dense that she doesn't know what is going on, or so withdrawn that she doesn't care.

Need to come up with more plausible reasons.
