Two things that I really liked from yesterday

1. Newell has a chance to be a plus Big 12 defender. Very impressed with his quickness and hands when he is defending on the ball. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in his defense.

2. Boxing out. I saw it yesterday. I had forgotten what it was like to watch Sooner basketball players box out. Thompson did the best of all imo. We are going to need that to continue to help offset our lack of size and athleticism in the paint.

It was certainly a welcome sight. The kid was all smiles after the game when he came over to the Capelables. You could tell that he was happy to have been able to make an impact.

I agree on both points. Newell will have to learn how to defend without fouling, but he has the quickness and the "want-to" to be a good defender. It was also nice to see Nick Thompson blocking out. He will have trouble blocking out in the Big 12 because he is so thin, but I think the effort will be there. Hopefully Washington can help out in that department too.
