Tyler Neal

I will also add I am more bothered by Grooms on the floor late in close games, since he's a miserable FT shooter, than Neal getting 5 minutes a game.

I think Sam is in there for ball control, but totally agree that it causes me to cringe when he steps to the line to shoot free throws at a cruicial point of the game.

I screamed, NO! on one play last night when Pledger took the inbounds pass and then handed the ball to Grooms. Steven needs to be smarter than that and keep the ball himself, if at all possible. He wasn't even pressured at the time.

Pledger was subbed back in to receive the inbounds and accept the foul. Kruger wanted him at the line. It was a bone head play and Pledger will probably catch alot of grief over it at film session.

I had a feeling that might be the case. Pledger was also late in keeping McClellan from getting wide open shots at the top of the key, because he went the wrong way trying to fight through screens.

I think everyone knows that I'm a huge Pledger fan, and have been since before he even arrived on campus. He did some good things last night, but that was not his best game by any means.

yep

I know that it seems rare. And it certainly did not show its face in last night's game. But there have been times when he has gotten a block, some key rebounds and/or a steal. However, his shooting seems cursed this year and this seems to stick in peoples minds.

In past arguements, we have had posters take the position that Tyler was the best 3 pt. shooter on the team. That is a pretty good example of one of those practice to game performance gaps.

I like Tyler alot. I hope that one of these days he finds a rythum that allows him to be a good contributor.

I agree he's in for ball control, but I wish Kruger would tell him once the ball is past half-court pass it to any of the other guys and then get away from the ball. A few times last night, he got past half-court, stopped his dribble and held onto the ball like he was wanting them to foul him. Subsequently, they did foul him and he made 1 of 2 FT's each time.

I think we all share your sentiments about Tyler. By all accounts, he's a fine young man. He's also a local kid who came to OU for all of the right reasons. Speaking for myself, I want nothing but the best for him.

But if he's not working hard to improve his game, as playmakr suggested earlier, I find that to be a troubling bit of news that is totally unexpected based on what we heard when Capel signed him three years ago. If true, he has no one to blame but himself for his lack of playing time. Hopefully he'll realize that and give it his best shot between now and the start of his senior season.

I will just say this, Neal is in over is head.........Agreed, but if the truth be told Texas just has better athletes then OU does right now. JMO! This being said, I think OU has a much better coach than Texas (Heck Kruger may be the BEST coach in the League). OU will catch up with the athletes in due time.

i'm guessing everybody is profiling neal a little here. we assume that b/c he is white, he is a hard work and hustle player

Race has nothing to do with it. He was reported to be a hard worker when he signed with OU. If playmakr is right, that report was not accurate, or something has changed since then.

If Tyler wants to see what hard work and hustle looks like, he needs to emulate Romero and Buddy. By the way, last time I checked neither of them are white. ;)

well yeah, b/c he is white. I'm semi joking. There are very few white players that are not catagorized as hustle players. cade davis, kevin bookout, nick collison, etc

How many all academic team players are slackers?

Yeah... I think that is why what Playmakr had to say caught me off guard. I mean, I can see that Physically he hasn't really gotten bigger, but that doesn't mean he isn't working hard. Right?

Boom!

You're comparing academics to athletics?

It's not a choice between either "slacker" or "hard worker." There is a lot of room in between. Some guys are just going to be run of the mill workers, do what's required to get by. But showing up on time and caring enough to even put the prerequisite work at a high major D1 basketball program in, is more than "slacking." I was responding to the notion that he was one of those above and beyond hard working guys.

But I have no idea whatsoever what the connection between getting an A and developing your game/being a gym rat is. Those are two completely different motivations/goals. Obviously the metrics of grades show he is a bright guy/hard working student. The metrics of basketball don't support him working hard, and what I've heard backs that up. He's just one of the guys.
