Unconfirmed: but Dook fans allegedly taunted player whose grandma died

People hate Duke b/c they are a consistently dominant team.

Same reason outsiders hate OU football. And now Bama football. And so on, and so forth. Same reason most OU fans hate KU basketball so much. Nobody likes a winner, unless you are that winner (or their fans).

People don't hate Duke with a passion cause they're good, they hate them cause of the elitist attitude their team and fans exude just like Notre Dame.

It was just a handfull of asshats that did it.

LOL at the other chants though. "past your bedtime"; Bilbo baggins. lol

People think OU fans have an elitist attitude. It goes with winning.

Is there a losing team that people hate because they act elitist? None that I can think of.

Yes, I remember the OU lacrosse scandal, the OU grad student's controversial paper about all the men she slept with, the OU student sitting in the Miami student section at the OU/Miami game then writing an article in the OU paper demeaning Miami and it's lower class students for mocking her, etc...

This Duke thing has NOTHING to do with winning or losing. For me at least, I've always had a special dislike for programs and/or their fan bases that are so "holier than thou." Penn State football was always like that to me, and they haven't been winning that much lately. It's also why I never liked Notre Dame football, KU basketball, Arizona basketball (try living "next door" to them, especially when Lute "Loot" Olson was the coach), etc.

And of course, this usually applies to Texas Longhorn ANYTHING, dating back to the 1970's. When they started losing to other Texas schools in the mid-70's, it was always followed with wild cheating accusations that were usually reserved for OU.

Have you ever heard of people hating UNC basketball with as much a passion as Duke ? Sure regionally within Oklahoma you'll have people from lesser programs say OU people are elitist but you won't hear a peep about it anywhere else, That has to do with winning.

Again Duke and again Notre Dame are absolutely despised because of the attitudes that their program and fans exude. Outside of the SE do people hate Alabama football ? There are tons of historically winning programs where people around the country couldn't care less about.

You are kidding yourself if you don't think OU football is hated, by some, outside of this region. That is nonsense. You'd have to live under a rock to think that. Heck, look at all the grief OU fans have given ESPN over their coverage of OU football in the last 7 years or so. OU was the new shiny toy when Bob first brought us back. Now that we've been winning for nearly 15 years again, we're back to being disliked. To not know that, or see that, means you aren't listening to what other people are saying.

Personally I think Duke is a school full of ugly, socially challenged kids that think they are special. I also think these private schools that pretend they have higher standards are completely full of it.

Are you seriously trying to compare the dislike that some people may have for OU football vs a program like Notre Dame that has been an afterthought for 20 years before this past season ? Again answer me why the hatred is so strong for both Duke basketball and Notre Dame football across the whole country when there are plenty of other programs who have as much tradition and have won as much or more then those programs.

I've spent plenty of time in the northeast including living there for a while - also am friends with a bunch of grads from both schools, let me just say Harvard grads have nothing on these guys.

People don't hate winners or success. People aren't envious of achievement. People don't like arrogance. People don't like elitism. To think otherwise is displaying a lack of understanding of people. It is kind of an elitist veiw of others.

People don't hate Gonzaga or Butler or Boise St. or Sam Walton or probably even Bill Gates. Now, they may not like Walmart. But, everyone liked old Sam.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. There are schools hated just as much as Duke bball and ND football. Stop trying to push an opinion on me as fact. Just b/c YOU hate those two more than anybody else, doesn't mean the entire country feels that way.

The dislike for ND football is easy.....they are on national television every single week. Much easier to dislike a team you see every week, than one you might see half the time. That is also the reason they have fans stretched coast to coast, many of which have no connection to the school at all. Duke bball is kind of the same way. They are on television a lot. They've also played in some of the biggest NCAA games over the last 20 years or so. The Laettner shot against UK. The games against the Fab Five. High profile games like that tend to create a lot of fans that either love those teams, or hate them.

Same with professional sports. Most non-Yankee fans cannot stand the Yankees. Most people that aren't fans of the Lakers, Bulls or Celtics, hate them. A lot of folks hate the Patriots. Hated the Steelers.

That doesn't mean EVERY team that wins on that level is hated. I'd say more are, than aren't, but there are some that for whatever reason don't seem to generate the hate. NC basketball is probably one, though I've always disliked them way more than Duke. I haven't seen as much hate for the Dallas Cowboys of old, but then again, I live around a lot of fans, so that may be one that I'm simply oblivious too.

People get sick and tired of seeing the same teams dominate. So if you take any team that has dominated over a long period of time, I'm guessing there are a lot of people out there that really dislike that team. After years and years of losing, that dies down some. You didn't hear a ton about ND football, but this year, a lot of that hate game back. Same with OU football. Outside of this area, there probably wasn't much hate during the 90's because we had turned into a laughing stock. Currently though, OU football is not liked very much outside the Big 12 area. That has died down a little with us not being in the NC hunt recently, and the SEC has probably picked up on some of that hate. That conference is hated by everybody right now. Why? Because they are dominating the college football landscape.

Despite the fact that I've shown you time and time again where TU was rated higher than OU, and I even showed you an article that said TU grads made more on average than OU grads, which I think is your entire point to disliking private schools, that the extra cost isn't worth it. Yet their grads make more. So in the long run, it probably IS worth it. But yet you keep going.

If you really believe this then this is done. Untrue but you obviously believe what you believe.

I was actually talking about their alleged standards for athletes. If you can play ball you can attend these schools.

You insecure TU people are laughable.

If you think that is true, you are sorely mistaken. I KNOW it's not true.
