Victor to portal

New coach is going to have his work cut out for him. On the other hand he is apparently going to get the early opportunity to start shaping the team in the direction he wants.

I won’t panic either way. Tubbs lost to a non-scholarship team early on. Next year could be miserable but exceeding expectations has good odds.

Short term vs long term.

If we hire the right coach, this won’t matter. It’s more scholarships to offer better players. Having a bad team next year is inconsequential if we hire the right coach. Of course, if we don’t, it could get ugly for the foreseeable future. No pressure.

Bishop kid undersized center for Creighton.. Go get him! 6'7 220 and averaged 13 & 10 in 3 games during tournament. Done! Now don't lose Hill or any of the guards please.

I don't get the love for Hill. He's solid, but not irreplaceable. Kind of positionless. Best suited to play the wing, but doesn't really shoot it well enough. Is kind of an undersized stretch 4, but REALLY undersized, and again, doesn't really shoot it well enough.

I'm kind of meh on him. I mean, we need bodies next year, but I don't think he's the difference in us winning vs losing games over the next few years.

I think we'll able to replace two points, two fouls and 50% FT shooting rather easily. Hell, that can be corralled at the Huff by lunch time.

Basketball players. Bring them in by the busload!

The transfer portal is much like walking into a Walmart Supercenter for the shelves and display units are stocked with players. In the past this would have possibly posed problems, but it's become a different environment. We'll be more than okay.

When he's on it's like "where have you been,"but otherwise he's rather inconsistent like a host of other players.

I'm not sure I'd blame this on Lon leaving. Given how little he played, Lon leaving might have helped our chances of keeping him. Bye.

Losing a body at this point hurts, but players on a roster that plays should be on the roster based more on "potential" or upside, especially after being in the program for two years. To paraphrase Stoops about Kabba, "I think we can find someone to get us 3 points and two rebounds a game".

Whether Lon stayed or not, the roster turnover is probably not that much different. But at this point it is what it is and it is more important to get the coaching hire right more than hiring someone because we're concerned about players leaving or not having choices in the portal.

Next year will be rough regardless, but I would rather take the hit now. It is too important for someone to bring energy, enthusiasm, and excitement for the future of our program more than someone to get us by for 2-4 years.

Jalen Hill is the kind of player you want to keep. Plays his butt off, rebounds with a passion, defends every position, does the small things that make your team better, and doesn't pout when things aren't going his way. He's a ball player ... and a tremendous athlete.

I think you'll see a MAJOR bump in his contributions next year on the offensive end. He's got a solid jump shot and improved around the basket as the year went on.

If he transfers, he'll go to a good team and be a critical cog in a very good season or he'll go to a smaller conference team and have numbers that will make us sad he left.

these are my feelings as well ..

I do not want to lose Jalen “Johnnie Gilbert” Hill.

WSU forward Trey Wade entered the portal this week - good defender and an OK shooter, but he can definitely finish at/around the rim.

Vic was given every chance. He cant finish around the rim. But blame lon.

Absolutely. At some point, the player can only be coached so far.... the player has to get better through his own effort and repetition. I never saw much improvement from him over his two seasons here.

We won't have an issue replacing his production, but good luck to the kid.

Yea and a good rebounder. If he decides to go to a P5 school, he could be a very good depth piece.

I would love to get Trey Wade at OU... I remember when we played them he had like 15 rebounds. Good athlete and solid player. Saw him play against TU a time or two as well in person.
