ViVi

I think ViVi has been outstanding recently. She is showing signs of being a dominating presence from here forward.

The one criticism I have of the article is that I've never bought into the "identity" theory. Basketball is a game of matchups and those change every game. Sometimes you have a special player that presents matchup problems for everyone, but those players are rare.

When Vivi arrived, I think she had only been playing two years, and she had an ACL injury. I thought there was evidence last year of some talent. Early in the year, we beat Illinois 78-76. After they took a 75-70 lead, Vivi scored five straight to tie it. Then, she hit a FT to tie it again at 76 before Sharane hit two FTs to win it. She scored six of the last eight points.

She seems to have learned a lot about working for a shot. The drive that she made along the baseline for a reverse layup recently was brilliant, and it was something she had no idea how to do last year. She learns quickly. She is our leading FT shooter in conference play (slightly over Maddie, actually Gabbi is, but she doesn't have enough FTs to count).
