I noticed that Lon has 5 walk-ons to go with 11 scholarship players. Does anyone know if Sherri pushes for walk-ons too?

I know we had one or two from the rowing team but that's not what I'm talking about.

I have no idea whether or not Sherri has a position on walk-ons. The only walk-on I for sure remember being on the team (other than those prompt
ed by injury to key players) was Kate Scott. She walked on for two years (but I believe had academic scholarships) and then earned an athletic scholarship prior to the 2001-02 season.

Lauren Willis was a walk on as was Kodi Morrison who both earned scholarships.
I think Caroline Winchester was also a walk on who earned her scholarship. Those three are the only ones that come to mind since Kate.

Lauren was able to get a video of her high school exploits to Sherri and Jan, who offered her to walk on, Sherri found Kodi Morrison as part of the rowing team and asked her to help out the team in practice, and ended up playing a few minutes. Caroline I know walked on but not sure of the circumstances, but earned a scholarship.

I would think taking a player like Gibbs, (possibly Edwards as well) as a walk-on would make perfect sense for the following reasons:

1) you are giving her the opportunity to see if she can handle the academics
2) you are allowing her to develop to see if she can play at this level in future years and perhaps earn a scholarship
3) you aren't tying up a ship that could be offered to a great recruit or transfer, if warranted

It is almost a guarantee that Sherri is never going to play more than 10 players decent minutes anyway so we end up with several scholarship players on the bench. I would think it would give Sherri more options if a couple on the bench were recruited walk-ons rather than scholarship players.

There is nothing for walkons to do in Sherri's program. They are not good enough to play in the games and they aren't needed for practice.

Sherri, as do many others, use guys to scrimmage and practice against. She feels it helps her girls to go against the bigger/stronger guys.

What do players like Gibbs do in practice? Would she do anything different if she were a walk-on?

I was talking more about the numbers of girls on the roster whether they are walkons or scholarship.

Kruger needs 15 players to run practice like he wants to. They all get plenty of work. Sherri, because she uses the guys, doesn't really need 15 girls. The ones at the bottom of the pecking order won't have much opportunity to get the work they need to improve.

As far as Gibbs, a miss that bad should probably have not been brought in under any status.
