I think it's a little because of what happened with Bomar and Sampson and the fact that we have to be more careful than maybe a team that hasn't been in trouble with the NCAA recently. I also think it's an inference on the fact that Capel doesn't seem like he's messing around anymore.
My guess is that if he chooses to come back, and in fact, he was given $3,000, and it was not allowed by NCAA rules, he'll probably have a chance to give it back and be suspended a certain amount of games. It probably depends on the form of the payment (advance? loan? straight cash?). But, he could just as easily be gone as determined by the Athletic Department, or possibly the NCAA. $3,000 may not seem like a lot, but I don't think Bomar and Quinn were given a ton more than that either and they had to sit out a year.
The big difference between the Bomar and Quinn situation is the Tiny situation happened prior to him being enrolled at OU (someone correct me if this is false).
