Watching Rotnei Clarke

With a name like Rotnei, he was probably born to play at OU.

But sometimes our children don't want to follow in our footsteps.

Funny, I had those same thoughts. Rotnei is a more consistent perimeter shooter than any guard on our roster. He has an ultra-quick release, plus he is very skilled at getting separation from a defender to get his shots off. I agree, he could have really helped us this year.

As much as he could have helped us this year...I think about what might have been if he would have came here as a freshman to go along with Warren, Griffin and the rest of them.

I agree. Too bad he and WW parted ways when their recruitment was barely underway. If that had not happened, I've got to believe that they would have come to OU as a package deal. There hasn't been a year since that time when we could not have used a shooter as good as Rotnei.

I guess I was wrong on Clarke. I didn't see it as much of a loss when he picked Butler instead of waiting to see what was happening at OU re: ncaa sanctions.

But, in retrospect it would have been nice to have him here.

Another reason why we would have been better off without Willie Warren. At one point we could have gotten both but Willie pulled his typical team cancer like crap and we had to choose between the 2 and did not choose wisely.

I agree with you, now that I've got the benefit of hindsight and knowing how things turned out. But if I had been asked back then would you take Rotnei Clarke for four years over Willie Warren for three? I would have said, no way! I'm not sure OU would have made it to the Elite Eight in Blake sophomore season without WW's help.

We also didn't know that WW would be hurt for a good portion of his last season, or that the team chemistry between he and TMG and Tiny would go south in a hurry that year.

Wasn't sad at all either when we missed out on him. Looking back, I was definitely wrong and we'd probably be look at a 4-5 seed right now with him on the team. Oh well, what can ya do. He didn't want to come here with pending NCAA violations and we have no idea if Kruger even wanted him, right? Or was there definite interest?

Won't waste my time thinking anymore about what could have been though. Really, really, really happy with this season, no matter the outcome of Friday's game.

There was definite interest and the word was that it was all but done pending whatever NCAA problems were possibly heading our way. NCAA took their sweet time so Rotnei took the safer option as time was running out on him choosing a place to play - all the more annoying because we came out fine and if they had ruled earlier he would more then likely have been a Sooner.

I've not been a fan of the way he's gone about his college career. Got the whole area in a recruiting uproar before choosing Arky, then spent two years complaining about wanting to transfer before actually doing it when a real coach comes to town. Seemed like his dad and uncle were his personal PR machine through both the initial recruiting and the transfer. I'm glad it ended up fine for him in the end and he seems to be more comfortable there. Besides, between him and Pledger no one else would get a chance to touch the ball.
