Wednesday night softball game

Double steal, 12-4
Romero doubles to left field corner, 13-4. I think this makes her 15-17 with two home runs, a triple, and about four doubles.
14-4 on another double steal, but by whom?

A hit and another double steal and it's now 14-4 through 7.

Finney gets two strikeouts and Wodach throws one out on second.

Final: 20-4
Hatfield had two home runs, Romero one, Nirschl one.

The game stories said that this was the first home run of the Fall for Romero. She also hit one against Oklahoma Wesleyan. Romero is now 14 of 16 at the plate with three doubles and two home runs. Her BA is 875. Her SP is 1563.

The bad news is that Stevens did regress back to starting with four walks and a wild pitch to give them three in the first. Neither Parker nor Finney have allowed a run.

Top hitters:
Romero 875
Hatfield 727
Arnold 500
Rogers 500
Aviu 462
Pendley 454
Townsend 429
Miller 417
Wodach 375
Lundberg 375
Ellis 364

Where did Hatfield come from? I dont remember her being such a hitter.

Macey did hit 3 home runs in 39 at bats last year. She may have some pop that we just haven't seen a lot of.

:OU-logo: Houston we have got a problem.

I was at the game Wednesday sitting in the lower reserved seats.
When Kelsey threw her first pitch and it went wide right and you could see the look on her face, I though ut oh, this is a bad sign. The first 2 games Kelsey pitched this fall, she looked like her old self from late 2014. This last game she looked as bad as some of her 2015 games. After the games from Sept 25-26, I with probably most other fans though that after the first weekend of games that we had the makings of a pretty good pitching staff. First we would have Paige Parker as the ace on the mound and we will have Kelsey who when on her game can be effective against quality competition as the main backup with Jayden Chestnut giving adequate relieve help.

Now with Kelsey's control problems resurfacing, how much longer do you keep putting her out there trying to get her back on a permanent track that may never happen when you also need to be developing these freshman pitchers.
We have 3 fall games left. This is Patty's best chance of getting Kelsey over this problem without jeopardizing a game. On the other hand if you keep throwing her out there and the problem does not get resolved, then you are sacrificing valuable time to develop these freshmen pitchers. You may say that they can develop in practice, but like Patty as said, you can look good in practice but playing in a game and performing can be a whole lot different.

If Kelsey does not overcome these control problems and you don't get one these freshmen ready to go when the season starts, you are going to have major problems with pitching depth when you go out west in February.
Jayden Chestnut is talented but I don't know if she will be as good as Paige was as a Freshmen. Right now, she looks like she will be the main backup unless Kelsey gets back on track. As far as Brittany Finney goes, she does not throw fast balls, she launches rockets. Its easy to see why very few high school batters could hit against her. She could just blow the pitch right past most of them. Unfortunately in college this will not always work. She will get lit up like a Christmas Tree against a good team unless she develops some good off speed pitches. She did throw one pretty good change up. She needs to put more spin on the ball. If she develops in this way, then can be a devastating pitcher.

JSULL

Good first post, although I had just read it on Times. Welcome.

I don't think Stevens has many chances left, and this one really hurt her case.

At least Patty could tell quickly that Stevens was back to last year's form and it cost only one inning. That's not a great sacrifice of pitching time for the freshmen to gain experience. Seems well worth it to me. Let her try a few more times-she's earned it.

Stevens usually starts as she finishes. There was only one game last year that I remember in which she retired about the first nine hitters. Then, in the fourth inning, she couldn't throw a strike. Usually, it is from the first pitch.

The coaching staff could tell almost immediately there was something off in Stevens delivery. Melyssa Lombardi, pitching coach, went to the mound after Kelsey walked the second batter and Patty made a trip after Kelsey walked the fourth batter but let Stevens finish the inning. The had Chestnut warming up after the second batter. Of course both Lombardi and Patty could have been just stalling to give Jayden time to get warm.

:OU-logo: I suspect that Patty will let Kelsey have one more shot against North Texas. If I remember correctly, this is one of the teams that Kelsey could not get her control and had to be pulled. This will be a good team to see if Kelsey can exorcise those control demons. If she cant, then I think you will see Jayden Chestnut in there real fast. I would think that Brittany will see at least 2 innings.

Speaking of developing pitchers and pitches. Does anyone know what their practice routine is after the fall games are over. Also I always wandered how much former players like Michelle Gascoigne have tried to help develop current pitchers. It seems like I remember Michelle hanging around the games quite a bit last year.

Michelle was a Graduate Assistant for the Sooners in 2014 while working on her masters. Not certain, but I do not think she is a GA this year but I most definitely could be wrong.
