Football question

I'm not sure sategna would have been drafted really high or anything anyway. If he throws up another nice year he could be like a 2nd rounder maybe and he hedges his bets in the interim vby getting a sure thing deal here.

Sategna definitely has room to improve his draft stock, but he undoubtedly would have been drafted, and had he entered the portal, he would have drawn interest from every team in the country.

My main point is that it's basically free agency with one year contracts in college football now, so it's silly to only look at portal additions and not celebrate retention. Texas added some excellent skill position players, but they also basically lost their entire RB room and two of their top three WRs.

I'm not a mateer guy. I think we blew it bringing him back. Well see. He prolly will have a nice game here and there (Trevor knight vs Bama), but I don't think he has the tools, technique, and processing to be what we need him to be. Trevor knight left OU and was the exact same QB at a&m too.. think mateer will be the same as his last year too. Way too many INTs

We've beaten this to death, so I'm not going belabor it too much more. He was good enough to make the CFP this year, and if not for bizarre ST blunders, we likely win our first round game for the first time in program history. I don't think he's a superstar, but he was also playing through injury and had a mediocre at best supporting cast, which improved at every position group. Potentially a dramatic improvement with some position groups.

Was Ott good enough to make the playoff this year? He was on the roster, too, so does he get credit for being good? Because that’s what you’re doing with Mateer … arguing that because the team made the playoff, it means Mateer was good enough. We made the playoff in spite of him. We overcame his awful three-pick game against LSU. He completed under half his passes against Mizzou. He was essentially nothing more than a game manager against Bama and Tennessee, where they more or less game planned around him and just hoped he didn’t make critical mistakes. Those were the four games that got us to the playoff. He was anywhere from terrible to (at best) mediocre in all of them.

And we haven’t upgraded every position. We have two running backs returning and replaced Tatum and Ott and Tatum with a G5 guy who isn’t nearly as talented.

Incredible

Hahahahahahahaha!

Yes! The backup RB that barely saw the field and the starting QB contributed the same! Let's talk about if our third string longsnapper was good enough next!

What I said is that Mateer is capable of being QB1 on a playoff team...because...he was. Pretty simple.

And Ott is capable of being RB5 that never sees the field. Everybody on this message board could fill that role as well.
