Football question

Congrats to Robert Spears-Jennings (Steelers), Jaren Kanek (Titans) and Deion Burks (Colts) for being drafted in Round 7. I thought Spears-Jennings would have gone a bit sooner, but I had Kanek at 50/50 being drafted. Burks literally spent FOUR HOURS on Mel Kiper's "Best Available" list. When he finally got his name called, the commentators said they will dig into why it took so long. Players fall in the Draft every year. I just have never seen it happen to a Sooner in this fashion. He was #96 on Mel Kiper's final top-150 ranking. He's been wrong before, but seldom 160 picks off on a player.

All in all, 7 Sooners were drafted which is higher than their average. Still, we need to start getting more than one guy drafted in the first two days.

Yea only getting one offensive skill guy drafted, and at the very end of the draft, is a pretty accurate representation of where our offense has been the last two or three years. We already know we won’t have any RBs drafted next year, so really need to hope the WRs are much better as a group than they were last season.

Often its better to not be drafted if its the 7th round.. but i looked and the Colts took no WRs. So that's amazing prolly.

Its better for OU to get as much drafted as possible regardless

There are definitely two sides to that coin. On one hand, you are correct because if you're not drafted, you can simply decide which team is the best fit for you. You may as well go to a team where you have the best chance of making a roster. On the other hand, if a 7th round pick is fighting tooth and nail with a UFA and it's too close to call, the team will likely keep the draft pick. It's a better look for the management team who drafted that player. Plus, it's easier to hide a UFA on the Practice Squad than a drafted player.

Ott signing with the Chiefs is hilarious. He and Murray reunited … very strange he would choose to sign there given how much of a disaster this season was for both of them.

Two 7th round guys, but your point is still valid. Now, let's look at the other side of the ball...the one Venables is slowly cleaning up. We've had a total of ONE defensive player selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft in the last SIXTEEN drafts. To give you an idea of how pathetic that is, Ohio State had THREE defensive players selected in the first 11 picks this year alone. YIKES!

I have to agree...very strange. Ott cost himself a lot of money by mailing in the season. Had he played hard and to his potential, he would have heard his name called today and his agent would be prepping for contract negotiations. NFL teams generally don't reward college quitters. I forgot his name, but we had a DT about a dozen years back who looked like he had a promising career ahead of him, but quit to focus on the Draft. The Eagles gave him a tryout after he went undrafted, but he was quickly cut and never heard from again.

Part of that is that arnold was such a bum, he took 1 year of tape. And then mateer wasn't elite and took another 1 year of tape

I never know if TEs count as skill guys. I think it’s usually WRs and RBs but I know some people also count TEs.
