Weekly Polls Thread Week 7

ignoring the voter error, it is interesting to me that our total AP points moved from 567 (217 points behind #12) in week 6 to 732 (26 points behind #12) in Week 7 voting.

We "gained ground" even though we moved back one spot in the poll. If you add our "missing" 16 points, we would only be 10 points behind #12.

If we beat Michigan this week, I expect a good bump since they are a name team.

Beat Michigan and it’s likely top 10.

There’s an article on espn talking about the possibility of the SEC getting 13 teams in the tourney!?!? That probably won’t happen but I could see 10-11 teams getting in. It will be interesting to follow this season.

It’s absolutely possible. The committee doesn’t consider conference affiliation when selecting the field, so there is no artificial cap. But the likelihood is that a few teams will struggle to keep up once league play starts, so 11-12 might be more realistic.

Kenpom currently has OU ranked #36; that's 11 spots behind Michigan (8-3) and 12 spots behind Arizona (5-5), both of whom we've beaten on a neutral court. That's a little bit silly. At some point, you have to move past perceived talent in favor of on-court results, don't you?

It is frustrating, bc the NET-Eff rating has us so low. Hopefully there will be some adjustments made.

For example, no reason to have Maryland above us. MD is above us in both barttorvik and KenPom, which is silly.

#16 MD - 9-2, SOS 344
#36 OU - 11-0, SOS 258

Why are they ahead of us? Bc of Off-eff rating...they have basically been curb-stomping weaker opponents with winning margins of 50, 34, 31, 71 and so on.

They also have 7 games against 250+ KP rated opponents, OU only has 5.

It will even itself out eventually, but definitely frustrating to say the least.

NET as it stands for OU:

Q1: 2-0
Q2: 2-0
Q3: 1-0
Q4: 6-0

KenPom doesn’t factor in results, including head to head. It’s a per possession metric. Other metrics are results based. The committee uses a mix of several of each
