From an article in the Examiner posted on Sooners Illustrated.

Sounds like a massive project. If he wants to walk on, and potentially earn a scholarship, I'd be all for it.

From the slideshow in the article, he had 5 points in the middle of the 4th quarter... 2A basketball in Oklahoma + 6'11, 5 points... Yeah he can walk on for 4 years, but don't think we ever need to give him a scholarship.

That is an odd article. It is like they are begging for the kid to get a scholarship.

Very weird article and quotes... This guy does know that there's prolly been like a thousand people 7 ft or taller? The author makes it seem like he's about to be Yao Ming height. Also it's weird how he is suggesting just being 7th means your "elite"..

If this player can't get his name out in Freakin 2A then he sucks. I mean everyone knew who page, griffin, and even clarke in 3A were.

Do not want, unless walk on

Wonder if the kid could walk on?

On Thursday, they were really good. The Pirate defense smothered the Wildcats as Preston rolled to a 63-30 win in the first round of the Class 2A boys' state championship tournament at State Fair Arena.

Carnegie (25-3) was making its first state tournament appearance since 2005 and entered the state tournament on a 12-game winning streak. But the Wildcats had difficulty scoring with 6-10 senior center Eric Love roaming the paint for the Pirates.

Love had six blocks in the game and altered numerous other shots.

“He is the key to our defense,” Walden said. “We can get out and pressure, and if they get by us, we've got him in the middle. He is averaging about seven blocks a game. He is tremendous. He doesn't have to beat his chest when he blocks shots. He just keeps the same expression and plays hard.”

All you need to know is that it is from the Examiner. Kids like Love is why there are walk-ons. If he is as soft as it appears on the surface, he will get man handled in JUCO, let alone Division I.

Love is a project for a NAIA or Juco situation. Add to that, OU has three walkons in CJ Cole, Jared Kruger, and James Fraschilla.

I have no idea if the kid can play or not,Choo says he can nad I say he IS a credible source to listen to.That said I think this is a no-win situation for Lon.He could offer to let him walk-on only to lose him to another school that will give him a schooly. If that happened and he turned out to be a player,Lon looks bad.On the other hand if Lon gives him a scholly and he turns out to be Oleg Restov , Kruger looks bad. Hopefully he DOES go juco and OU has more time to evaluate. Either way I trust the coaches to do what they think is best.

If the guy is a true shot blocker along the lines of Ibaka, Jabahri Brown, Longer Longer or the kid from Louisville, then he's worth a walk-on with a chance to earn a scholarship.

And I'm not saying just because he was successful in 2A, that necessarily means this transfers to college. But if his timing and jumping ability is there, and Choo Kennedy seems to think it is, then, yes, a defensive specialist can be valuable in college.

Even if his offense is limited to alley-oops, the guy who blocks or alters ten shots a game can impact how you play defense. You can even crowd the three point line and dare a guy to drive on you.

Bring him in for a try out. Run him in on a 5 on 5 game, see if he gets in foul trouble or is legit. 5 on 5 is the key. Three on three games favors the offense and does little to prove shot blocking ability.

I've seen him, and he's not ever gonna help us. Not very athletic and can't score at all. Effective in high school just because of his size and length. Also doesn't run the floor very well. Just not a high major kid.

Udoh from Baylor a few years back. OU never offered and what he became. He was the springboard to get Baylor over the hump. OU never have an effetive shot blocker in the middle. You can't teach height.

i think Udoh and this guy are completely different monsters... Udoh forever changed my opinion on "shot blockers" i am now obsessed with them..

Udoh went to Michigan out of HS, him and this Love kid are not on the same level.
