I still have NO problem with my statement that expecting a sweet 16 was ludicrous. Just because Ou made it doesn't make the expectation less ludicrous. I picked it in my bracket so it's not like I didnt believe they could - I just don't think you can go into a season EXPECTING that. Honestly, that's rather stupid IMO.

I guess it kind of comes down to how you define "expectation". If you're talking in terms of absolutes, then yes it's kind of stupid to absolutely "expect" OU to make the Sweet 16. Outside the NBA factory in Lexington, KY, I don't think anyone can absolutely "expect" to make the Sweet 16. It really is hard to do, and bad luck, bad calls, bad draws, injuries, etc. can happen to anyone. KU and Duke the last few years, are all living proof of that.

However, if you're talking in terms of what you think a team can reasonably achieve, I don't think it's "stupid" to have an expectation that OU will make the Sweet 16 next season.

I don't necessarily. Not if Buddy doesn't come back for sure. Not if Spangler has a back issue that is going to be nagging. We lose our best offensive post player and don't really replace that offense. We lose our best offensive guard and don't really replace that.

Yes... But as Gary and many others have stated... We are recruiting better players and that makes us better overall.

I don't disagree, but a great freshman recruit doesn't equal Buddy Hield as a junior or Tayshawn Thomas as a senior.

How is that saying OU sucks?

Apparently reading comprehension is a problem around here.

Do I think they will have the talent to make it? Well sure.

Not sure that is really true. On paper at least. They may end up being better, but Buddy is still, by quite a bit, the best ranked/rated player out of HS LK has recruited to OU. And Cousins is the 2nd highest, if you use ESPN's "grade" for each player. Cousins' grade is actually tied with Pritchard's for second. Hornbeak would have been the 2nd highest, had he stuck around.

I like what LK is doing, but other than being "deeper", I'm not sure the talent is really getting that much better. For that to happen, we needed to hit on our A/B guys. Guys like Grandstaff. Trier. Shake. Even McClure and McQuaid. Getting one or two of those guys would have definitely helped in elevating the talent level in Norman, especially those first 2-3 guys.

I'm using ESPN, rivals, scout avg. ESPN goes in and changes theirs to make them look better. (several times proven)

IM NOT A STARS IS EVERYTHING GUY....

Buddy was 3.3 stars 20th best SG 96th overall
Isiah was 2.7 stars NR overall
Jelon was 3.3 stars 28th best SG 108 overall

Lattin 3.3 13th best center 130 overall
Buford 3.3 23rd best PF 110 overall
_____________________________________
2015
odomes is 3 star NR (lol)
James is 3.3 17th best SG 146 overall

2016
Pritchard is 4 star 7th PG 40th overall
Doolittle is 3star NR overall

Cousins was a steal... No one even remotely close knew who he was... relatively speaking.
No one knew buddy would be POY, maybe crutchfield when he saw him when he was 13!

I think espn has made their grading system much tougher throughout the years. If you look you have a 2 star Cousins graded higher than 4 star James. Also have 1 star Cole graded higher than 3 star Woodard.

Deeper, longer, more athletic, return 6/7 out of a 9 man rotation, add Buford, McNease and Manyang.... Not just "deeper".

What paints an untrue picture is to continually focusing on what this program is losing. Everyone is going to lose parts and pieces. Not everybody is fully capable of replacing those parts and pieces as effectively as we have over the last 3 years. Not everybody is bringing in the quality of kid/player this staff is and not everybody is developing that talent into productive minutes on the floor like this staff is. To assume this upward trend doesn't continue based on Kruger's history is folly.

espn completely changed their grading numers system in 2013 I believe

This thread is kind of pointless, since at the time we thought we would have Buford (a guy who many hoped would be a reasonable facsimile of Clark) and didn't know we would have Thomas.

This team would have had big time issues without Thomas. I think eveyrone realized this year that we missed Hornbeak and Neal quite a bit.

If we had Hornbeak we would have had easily the top team in the conference. Not that Hornbeak was great, he was a glue guy off the bench that could spell Woodard for a few minutes or play a solid 2 guard for a few minutes. Definitely would have had a way more extensive role than Walker had.

How can someone that left because he didn't like his role be a glue guy?

I'm guessing he felt he was better than that. Felt like he should go somewhere where he could get a starting role.

Hornbeak would have been a huge deal for this team. Lack of a backup point guard is probably the biggest knock on the team.
