What are your expectations for next season?

Sweet 16. Should have made it this year

With the improvement we made going into last year. I'm extremely high on next year. NCAA Tournament type thing is hard to predict. But I think we win 30 games and may be a 1 or 2 seed so we should at least be a Sweet 16 team.

And to say Kruger's teams haven't won in the NCAA Tournament yet. It took Kelvin 5 years to win an NCAA Tournament and you could argue that team was probably his worst team at that point. They were literally the last at large in the NCAA Tourney that year. And he went on to win like 10 or so more NCAA Tournament games the next 4 years. Tubbs only one like 1 NCAA Tournament game the first 4 years of his career here. Of course the Tournament expanded to 64 teams right after that, so that isn't really comparable.

But to me this team has a high ceiling and should be one of the favorites in the Big 12 next year.

wow really? We did play over our heads a bit this year but I would be shocked if we weren't a better team next year.

I think we'll be improved too, but maybe not. What if Hornbeak transfers, and we don't find an adequate replacement? What if we have injuries next year, something we pretty much avoided this season? What if the young bigs take a little longer to adjust to the college game than we or LK think/hope? I also expect the top of the Big 12 to be tougher than it was this year.

I think that you are right. We could have just as easily won 18/19 games and been a NIT bubble team.

Kruger deserves whatever credit he gets. But, the extra practice in the summer and European exhibition games got us some advantage going into the nonconference games. We got off to a good start, gained some momentum, and the kids worked their butts off.

This is how I feel pretty much. Don't think we have the depth or inside presence to expect a Sweet 16 yet. Pieces are being put in place, but we're not there yet.

Some interesting comments in this thread. The year-old poll indicates that most expected a Sweet-16 run in 2015. We shall soon see.

We have not won a post season game under Kruger. We're losing our top rated talent in Clark & replacing him with lower rated guys. Spangler is not going to grow and is ineffective vs legit post players. I don't see much upside to anybody on our roster other than Cousins, Bennett & possibly Booker. If we don't add a stud transfer post player the odds are we tread water.

Making the tournament is all that should be expected based on the facts.

Well, OU did add a very good transfer post player.

Thanks for digging this up. It's an interesting walk down memory lane. Based on these results, the team has met or exceeded most fans' expectations. I, too, voted Sweet 16 (though I don't remember doing it). But now I want more. If they play well, this team is capable of beating anyone left in their region.

I was right on. I didn't include it in my post but I was expecting a Sweet 16 run at the very least as far as the tourney went. Expecting at least as good in '15-'16, too...

I don't necessarily. Not if Buddy doesn't come back for sure. Not if Spangler has a back issue that is going to be nagging. We lose our best offensive post player and don't really replace that offense. We lose our best offensive guard and don't really replace that.
