is that we have become completely irrelevant on the national scene. There will not be a single highlight of OU featured on SportsCenter this season unless we are playing a ranked team and that will likely be of the quick 30 second variety. Even Bedlam, which has in the past led SportsCenter broadcasts, will become irrelevant outside of the state. This is what does the most damage to our program from a long term perspective, irrelevance.

The good news is the sportcenter announcers occasional mention that Blake is from Oklahoma.

Our loss to Chaminade was on SportsCenter.

It'll take more than a few years for us to lose relevance in this region, if ever. As long as we can recruit players in this region we will be able to return to prominence, in this coach's career or the next.

Yeah seeing OU-Chaminade on SC makes it hard to argue that all news is good news.

In college basketball it takes one or two star players to change the national perception of your program. No matter who the coach is Oklahoma Basketball has a bright future. We've been a very solid program for the last 30 years, we'll be fine. Spare me the melodramatic stuff.

How many times did you see K-State highlights on ESPN before Beasley got there??? One impact recruiting class makes you a hot topic in the world of college basketball. And it's not like people are going to forget we have been good before.

Let's hope you're right. Kind of the point behind my first post was that the further off the national stage you get the harder it becomes to recruit. Can it be done? Absolutely. Does it make it more difficult? Absolutely.

WHAT IF, just what if we knock off a 9-0 big east team this Saturday? Do you think that might make sportscenter? I'm not being sarcastic. I'm just hoping.

And that is just one more good thing about Capel getting a guy like Cam Clark. Not only will he most likely have a good career at OU but highlights like he's had the past 2 games get on sportscenter and remind people about OU basketball.

Selection sunday will be a real blast.

Personally Selection Sunday is always a blast for me. NCAA tournament is the best thing in sports...just wish we had at least a decent shot at making it this year. As it is it will almost certainly take us making a miracle run through the Big 12 Tournament to make it.

Those 30 years of success can recede from the collective memory pretty quickly. And don't be so sure it'll necessarily be that easy to get that key recruit or two that turns things around overnight. Most young athletes aren't known for their deep knowledge of sports history and tradition, and Kentucky we ain't.

I agree with SeniorSooner. Drop out of the national picture for a while, and it can be darned hard to get back into it.

I hated Selection Sunday last season -- absolutely hated it -- and it's likely I'll feel the same this season.

We'd better make a big leap forward next season, or our program could be digging its way out of a deep hole.

And that comes from a poster often accused over the years of being a sunshine pumper.

This is true, but the question is do you see anyone of that caliber coming here to make a "Blake Griffin"esque impact with Capel at the helm, because I don't. That is what is disheartening about the situation the program is in at the moment. Every year we are getting farther behind the current powers in the conference, KU, MO, BU, TX, KSt. Heck even OSU and TxA&M are out recruiting Capel. That leaves us basically battling for 8th in a 10 team league unless he can reel in a BIG time recruit over the next class or two. Not a promising scenario to say the least.

Why?
'Cause the BanMan CAN!

It doesn't take a Blake Griffin. It takes a class filled with Taj Gray, Terrell Everett, Drew Lavender, etc.. I think the class we'll sign for 2011 could or will be that class.

I promise you, the minute we back to competing for top four in the Big 12 (10) we'll be back on Big Monday, Sportscenter, etc. Unless we fade into oblivion for a decade we'll be fine.

I thought about this. Then I thanked God that we aren't on TV or Big Monday this year.
