I hope that the standing ovation when Alexander left the game was for her and not that she had been run out the game. Can't think of a kid that deserved a standing ovation more than that kid.

This OU team is the softball version of the 27 Yankees. She had to pitch to them three times, and with a support staff that couldn't see the field at OU. Her outing yesterday was after being hit on the foot the day before that removed three of the toenails on that foot.

What I love about amateur sports is personified by Alexander this weekend. We watch and every great once in a while we see the far extreme of the human performance and selflessness. It just makes me feel good about us.

I will remember Alexander's performance this weekend for a long time. For me, it was Buddy at Kansas or the few other games that I will never forget.

The standing ovation was definitely out of respect for her performance in the NCAA tournament.

I have a feeling savvy OU fans fell in love with Odicci Alexander. I know I did. How can you not show your respect for a player who leaves it all on the field despite the obvious pain and extreme exhaustion we saw during Sunday night’s game? She was still playing through pain yesterday, but she was doing everything she could to win the game.

I’ll admit the story about her devotion to her grandfather touched me, too. I have four beautiful granddaughters, but I would be proud to have Odicci as a member of my family if I could. She’s a special young lady!

If she's interested in coaching as a career, I would love to see Patty offer her a position - but I bet JMU has had the same thought.
