Guys our ladies were pick to win the Big 12 now they can't win a game. For some reason this year the OU ladies are not on tv and it has been hard to see them and therefore I can't determine what is going on. Is it coaching, lack of talent or the ladies not playing together?

They have no heart, no team chemistry , no will to win. The fact is, this is the most uninspired team I have ever seen play. The talent is just not there. That is my opinion & it is sad to say.

Yeah besides AE very very average talent. Really surprising based on how much we have won, how bad we have recruited.

I still have hope. Hook , Ellenberg, and Griffen need to go out fighting. The team has talent. For some reason, they are off. Next year OU has some good players coming in. 2015 and 2016 look to be good recruiting years. Maybe Coale will have a blog on whats missing and a way to fix it. This season is puzzling.

I haven't watched much of OU this season so far, but it might been a lack of motivation to win. That can come from coaches or senior leaders and is vital for success. Baylor on the other hand seems to have players that are eager to learn and soak everything Kim and Odyssey say in like a sponge. They don't have a know it all attitude (Like BG and other we have had in the past) and catch on quick to what they are taught. They believe in their abilities and so far it is paying off. Sherri's a good coach and will figure out a way to motivate or at least get them to drink the kool-aid. Hang in there!!

GM, it's funny how you and others put down the student-athletes after they are gone, especially after they've won a NC for their fans and school. Her "know it all attitude" (IYO) did something right, don't you think?

Don't be so quick to judge SB. I've stood up for BG on numerous occasions on this board when her sexual orientation was in question it is her attitude that I have a problem with......and look where that has gotten her at the next level....hurt!

Mulk - I agree with you. BG was a great player but a bit too arrogant.

The Sooners are playing too tight. They are more worried about doing things in the right way and not screwing up than they are about playing ball. They just need to play - lose themselves in the game and be in the moment. The talent is there - they just need to get their heads together. Coach will get them straightened out.

I just don't recall you stating your "know it all" opinion while BG was at BU.It seems a little disingenuous anytime it happens. And her sexual orientation really has nothing to do with it. My point is if you can't say it about them REAL TIME, then don't bring it up after they helped the program hang banners and go to the bank. BUT...if you can guide me to a post on the BU site from 2009-2013 where you said BG is a "know it all" ...I will rescind.

Back to the topic of the thread...I believe OU is basically playing as expected based on talent, skill and experience. This is what happens when there is not any DI "winning wisdom" on the team; players that is. Coaches don't lace'um up. Compared to BU...they have some "winning wisdom" on the team. OS is clearly an example.

I could list several things wrong but if you want to sum it up with one word, it's recruiting.

This is not a talent level problem except for not having a true point guard. This is a chemistry issue. You have the same people minus McFarland that went to the Sweet Sixteen. Last year Hook, Sharane, Griffin, Vegas were all starting. McFarland lit a fire under the team after Whitney got hurt by just playing hard.

We have had big trouble rebounding this year - that is not talent that is effort.

Agreed, I don't buy into the "lack of talent". These kids can play and have proven it. They have forgotten how to win. Aaryn may be putting up big numbers right now, but she doesn't show any leadership. I can't remember when I have seen a team shoot the ball so poorly, that multiple shots don't hit rim, clang off the back board, and no one tries to take control. If the ship doesn't get "righted" soon, this could end up being a very ugly season, with the end of an NCAA tournament run.

When a team fights back from a 17 point deficit to tie the game, and no one takes a leadership role on their back to close out the game, there lies a problem. We need to quit settling for 3 point shots and become a complete basketball team. We are proving to be lousy behind the arc and forgetting to take it to the rim. We've become a dribble team and not a quick passing team. All our problems are fixable, but you have to have desire, heart, and the want to succeed attitude if they are going to have a winning season. I don't see that with this team right now.

The reason I said recruiting is because Sherri is playing too many players who can't score. At times she has 3 players on the court at the same time who can't score. That shows a lack of offensive talent.

Exactly! The coaches need to recruit players that have talent, skill and experience. They must be talented (preferably gifted) enough to COMPETE at the DI level. They must be skilled. Regardless of the position, they must know the fundamentals of the game. EVERY PLAYER regardless of position should have ball handling skills. EVERY PLAYER regardless of position should know HOW TO REBOUND. They have to recruit players who have experience playing at a high level in high school...tough competition. It also helps if they have had the opportunity to play against and with older players. Teams that CONSISTENTLY recruit in that manner have consistent success. Consistency matters because it ensures that you always enough critical thinking players with a winning attitude, a desire to work hard on the court and in the classroom, with a team attitude and a willingness to build chemistry on the team and then keep replenishing the team with the same type of player.

Does OU have ONE player right now that has the tenacity of CP? She was not mean but she played with a fierceness that would have you a little fearful. She never punched anyone in the face during a game, although it probably would have been justified (just kidding). You have to have at least one. NG and NK appear to be a little timid to me. AE has some of the skills that DR possesses, but she's not quite there either. I've not seen anyone this year play with a sense of urgency. They've played tight, fearful and lucked up in some OT games early in the season. And I definitely have not seen confidence or leadership. The past few years' ability to make it to the S16 was directly attributed to WHJ's contributions of experience. Had she not been there...

It's time to rebuild before we end up with a team that cannot even get to the tournament, let alone win one game. We might be there unless something improves drastically and quickly. And it's going to take some time; two or three years of high level recruiting, teaching and coaching. Then continue to build on it. As I said before, we didn't make hay while the sun was shining (2007-current). There was a point where we had four McD's AA on the team at one time. How many now? One and she's a senior. How does that happen? NK was a WBCA AA. There is not one that is a consensus high school AA. How do you become a MCD's AA and a FOURTH TEAM PARADE (AE)? I realize there is some politics involved in the selections and that there are only so many spots, but that makes no sense.

At the half, today, SMU led Louisville by two. Louisville is far superior, athletically, except for that SMU point who is stunningly good, but SMU hustled while Louisville floated.

Texas, not exactly a hotbed of talent, leads Texas 30-18 at the half. Hustle, effort.

On any given day...any team can face defeat. The talented, gifted, tenacious, fundamentally sound and teams that play with chemistry. BUT...when a team continues to exercise the same type of strengths or weaknesses, one must believe that is the general face value of that team.

Perhaps losing begets more losing. You get used to it, it becomes routine, it becomes normal, it gets repetitive, you just go through the losing motions and if it happens again, well, it's happened already, so no big deal.

:(

PS: If you need medicine, the pokes and cyclones had some interesting things to internet after yesterday's mens losses (see sig link). Oh, and that team in Waco also lost in Waco. I'm not trying to promo it or anything, but it might help if you need a basketball related laugh

To me there has been a lack of player development in recent years. Other than Jo from last year's squad how many of the recent/current players have improved considerably during their time on campus? In past years we saw players like AT, Ny, DRob who had taken a quantum leap forward in the skills and on court production. Jo was like that last year. Abi Olajuwon her senior year. This team hasn't had any of that. AE is good but she was good right out of the box her freshman year. Nicole and Morgan have gotten better, but not a whole lot. KK, Kornet? It's too early in their careers to right them off but the production is not there from them either.
