I'm not sure how this is going to work...17 players with only 15 ships. .

However it works out Norm, they are going to be loaded for Bear. No pun intended.

No doubt. They also have a top 10 player committed for 2016. If they sign Cox, or another elite player, they could make a run at another national championship.

Should be intestersting to see how many kids are there next year.

Maybe they're not all on basketball scholarships. I have a friend whose granddaughter will graduate in May from Baylor, having signed a letter of intent in high school to play collegiate soccer for them, but having actually been on an academic scholarship all four years.

I think you can do that with soccer, but not with basketball or football. There were restrictions such that if you had an athlete on a baseball scholarship who played football, his scholarship had to be a football scholarship. Too many schools tried to increase the number of football players and basketball players by giving other types of scholarships.

So if I'm smart as a whip and on a full ride (plus a computer!) merit scholarship to OU, Sherri can't accept me as a walk-on? Jeminently--discrimination against brainiacs!

Unless something has changed---no. If you permitted this, it would just be another way to get around football squad limitations. When you see a restriction such as this, you can be assured that it exists because somewhere, some school put five or ten football players on academic scholarship, or, as was commonplace, on track scholarship.

There are certain situations when you can. Brandon Weeden was a walk-on at OSU for 2 or 3 years because the Yankees paid his tuition. In football walk-ons are limited in certain areas like training table, meeting participation, etc. so eventually OSU had to put him on scholarship when they needed him to actually play in games. Nebraska was famous for this when the NCAA limited scholarships but they may have changed the rules about this.

Buckner will most likely transfer; personally, I'm still surprised Baylor offered here. Fuqua may graduate this semester and move on.

Something tells me that one or both of Beavers or Dry never step foot on Baylor's campus. They are attending IMG Academy in Florida; perhaps they can get another year of "prep" school before going to college.
