Al changed to OU yesterday, but Dean was still waffling - these guys :facepalm

Yeah, **** those guys! They couldn't accurately predict where an 18 year old was going to college. What a pair of idiots, right?

I think it has more to do with their "sources" tell them things. Dean misses every big story with his "sources". Just say idk and don't act like you have sources

They have no sources. They just state their terrible opinions and are batting about .002 life time.

If they say something is going one way it's probably going 100% the other way.

It's also possible that someone related to a recruit told someone they were going to a different school.

Or you know, they just have no sources. It's also possible information from someone else close to the recruit comes in later that contradicts the source and predictions change. Or again, they just have no sources.

Either of them could have just said, "I've no clue where he'll go; it'll be interesting to see how it plays out" and not lost a single ratings point in the process.

might have actually gained some ratings for being honest for once

Probably would have but the media is filled with those who are more focused on engaging in a pissing contest rather than to defer to rational thought.

I haven't been in Oklahoma for quite awhile, but I always appreciated that Al would talk OU Basketball when almost no one else on the radio would. I'd go easy on him. I know he was wrong, but I think he wants the best for OU basketball and is more supportive than some other radio folks in Oklahoma.

I hear you and I've been away from Oklahoma for many years, but I listen to him now and then and he seems to have been coasting for a good long time. He was once an insider with good info, but those days seem to be long gone.

This. It's obvious that Al no longer has any reliable sources, but still pretends that he does.

Originally, Al was the only insider who provided any information. Back in the day, he was the only source of recruiting information. It seemed like he was the only reporter who was an OU fan.

It was sufficient that when I lived in Europe, I subscribed to the Oklahoma Journal by mail just to get his column. It took a month to get there (surface mail, third class), but it was the only OU information. My newspapers tended to come in bunches rather than one or two a day. It's like they all got thrown into a bin on some ship, and I would get fifteen on one day. There was no internet, and it was still called Armed Forces Network. I had to ship back to the states to buy an American TV when I moved to an area that got an Armed Forces Network signal since German TVs wouldn't get it (frequencies, signals, etc.). Al was the only source I had. I learned all about the Tabor brothers from him.

You can't call someone a "lock" to Kansas, then say he is going to OU. Both Dean and Al's sources are not reliable.

I remember when he did the color commentary while John Brooks did play-by-play. They wore tuxedo's for every home game. I can't remember what they did for the road games.

I wasn't the most optimistic person on here about Trae committing to OU, but I knew we had a much better shot once Dean predicted KU.

Yep!

I wouldn't be surprised if Dean had slipped back into that "I can't look like an OU homer" mode. He was getting that way leading up to the Sugar Bowl, although he did pick OU to win on his Sunday night "Sports Blitz" show.

I thought the exact same thing. As soon as I heard that making the rounds I thought, "well, now I know we're really in it."

Al used to be THE guy. I can still remember hearing him shout from the rooftops about an incoming JUCO named Angelo Hamilton who would solve all of mankind's problems. The '88 Villanova game is on youtube, and if you look right behind Tubbs on press row you'll see Al, front and center. The Thunder have ended all that. I can't tell you the last time I saw Al at a Sooner hoops game, but he used to never miss. Last I checked he still wears his '84 Big 8 Champions ring.

But that ship has sailed. Oh well.
