If you played fastpitch softball or baseball, which position(s) did you primarily play?

I usually played second base, sometimes third---glove man. Sometimes, I pitched in relief. Had one season at second with no errors and no strikeouts--in fast pitch.

Either 1st base or right field. I was horrible on the defensive side, but swung a decent bat. Baseball.

I started playing little league baseball when I was 9 years old and continued through highschool and played catcher the vast majority of the time. I liked playing other positions but I absolutely loved catching.

Never caught a game. Played second and short in little league. Played second in American Legion. But, we lost our team when I was about sixteen. Haven't played baseball since. I struck out a lot in Legion ball, only hitting about 240.

I played right, center & catcher in baseball and the same in softball:woot

I was mainly a catcher(as with center in football my dad always told me not to play a position that there was only one of) but also played a pretty good right field and first base. I was always a good hitter and I probably could have played in college somewhere had it not been for the next level of breaking ball.

In softball I played first base but ended up doing a lot of pitching. I was actually pretty good at that.

Second base with a quick pivot to first. Third base when our regular third pitched. Pretty good glove, but not much power at bat.

3rd base and short, baseball and softball. Pretty good glove and had a live arm.
Good hitter certainly not great.

Right field some of the time Left other times. On BB I played left out on the bench.

Two questions for all of you catchers.

1) Did you call the pitches or did the coach?

2) If you were a coach would you call the pitches or would you allow the catcher to do so?

I coached a Babe Ruth team, and I let everyone call their own pitches. But, they didn't really have anything except a fast ball and a make-believe curve.

I always called the pitches, I allowed my catcher to call pitches when I coached, and if I were coaching today I would have my catcher calling the pitches. I think a catcher has a better feel of which pitches are working and which ones aren't, when runners are looking to steal (sometimes I could figure out their steal sign) and call for a pitchout, etc. I haven't seen any evidence coaches do a better job of calling pitches than catchers do.
