Which recruit are you most looking forward to

I think it's pretty awesome that this question is so tough and that there are so many good answers here. My first thought is Manyang since I expect him to get the most minutes and since he can have the biggest impact defensively but so many here are making good arguments for Buford, James, and Odomes. It's pretty exciting.

Do you really think McNeace will see C.J. Cole like minutes and may not play at all? If I was a betting man, I would make a sizeable wager that you're wrong on that one.

Despite the fact that D. J. Bennett didn't receive as much playing time as he deserved this season, at least IMO, he still averaged 8.0 mpg. I think Jamuni will average that and perhaps more his first season. I'm not saying he'll push anyone for a starting spot. But, I think some of you guys may be selling the kid short.

Who is he going to take minutes from? Spangler? Lattin? Manyang? Buford/Odomes if we go small?

I think he might get more next year than Cole got this year, but it wouldn't shock me at all if he didn't play as many as DJ played this year, which seemed like next to nothing at times.

Why do you think McNease will not play. Big guy with big wingspan and a nice touch on the ball. And apparently works hard.

If they freshmen are able to play you can be sure they will get minutes. this will be like a 5 man recruiting group.

I was at their practice for about 45 min today and, while still a ways away at this point, McNease has improved dramatically from the first time I saw him.

Care to expound on what McNease has improved on, and what is still holding him back, in your eyes?

McNease has a HUGE advantage over Mayang. He's been in the program a whole year! Not many Juco's come right in and contribute, much less start. I know Mayang has a lot of potential, but it's no sure thing he will be ready.

Zero chance McNease is more ready than Manyang. Zero.

McNease was/is SUPER raw. Has he gotten better this year? I'm sure he has. Would he be any more productive on the court, right now, than say DJ Bennett? I doubt it. Give the kid time to mature and improve. The world is full of long, athletic guys that can't play a lick. Give LK 2-3 years to get this kid up to speed.

I'm looking forward to odomes and MANyang.

This is a great question, what I like is that OU is starting to develop talented players up and down the roster. The competition every day in practice is huge in player development.

Buford is really interesting to me, a long athletic wing that can drive the ball and create off the bounce. Those kind of guys are hard to come by.

Manyang, spangler, Lattin, Buford, ? James will come in and be a 3 guard with Buford playing "4"...
I'll wager lunch he's less than bennetts mins?

A couple of things stand out...
1. While he is a legit 6-10 and I bet still growing, Jamuni is just not very physically imposing. He weighs the same amount I do but is a foot taller. He's just so slight and gaining leverage is going to be very difficult for him early on against legit bigs. He is way behind Lattin in his ability to use his body and positioning to his advantage. This all should come as he gains bulk and gets coached up.
2. He is still learning to be a big man. I know it sounds strange but there is a mentality, a toughness, and a feel you must possess to be effective in the post. He doesn't have this yet and, admittedly, it may never come. Remember that he was a guard in high school and hit an enormous growth spurt over his last 2 seasons. He still has to grow into his body, physically and mentally.
3. His skill and mechanics still need a lot of work. We can steal some minutes with him in the post if he can be effective on the boards and defensively but, to maximize his athletic talent, he needs to improve his basketball skill level.
4. His work ethic seems to be good and, like I said earlier, he's better than the kid I watched in November. He needs to get to work now on his body and finding his game. Hopefully, he took full advantage of this redshirt year. He's better but I hope he's on track or hopefully a little ahead of schedule. If he's ahead, his length and athletic ability could really help. If he's behind, he won't be much help against quality personnel.

I'd say he is a little behind where Bennett was last season as a redshirt JR. I would guess he'd average something in between what Cole and Bennett gave this year.

Mcneace has already transformed his body and should continue to do so between now and next season. He's got a long way to go, but his ceiling is way beyond bennett's ceiling. after seeing where he was today regarding confidence and basic skills, he is light years ahead of where he was in October. He will play a role like Bennett or khadeem this year for next year's team. Really interested to see where he is as a junior though with his size and length and athleticism.

Yeah McNeace is raw and will probably never get any playing time at OU. He will just be buried on the bench. Nobody has ever improved much under this coaching staff.

I'm sure all of you knew Cousins was going to lead the Big 12 in 3 point percentage and be second on the team in scoring someday after his freshman campaign.

Instant impact: Manyang, and second is not reasonably close.

Long-term: Odomes. Has an NBA 2-guard build, plays small school HS ball, hits his threes from 25 feet, and has athleticism and a motor. His ceiling should be huge. If he stays three years, I see him as a 1st Team All-Big 12 guard.

The fact that James and Buford could possibly make that same list... jeeeeeez. This might be our most impactful class since Taj Gray/Longar/Relly Rell/Godbold.

Manyang and whoever gets us points driving to the basket from the halfcourt offense.
I think we won't know how good this team is till the 2nd half of the season.

I'm looking at him really making an impact at some point in his SO season or from the tip of his JR year. He has just tons of athletic ability and, with how this staff develops players, I'd be really surprised if he didn't become a very important part of what we do over the next 3-4 years.

I'm most intrigued by Manyang and Buford BTW. I think we get instant impact on our rotation from both guys from the first tip of the season.
