I think this may be wishful thinking on behalf of the Silver Stars. I guess we'll find out though.

I'm sure it was a dream come true, Skylar Diggins talked about filling out 401k's and stuff so it's really a big deal, Dan Calls some of the OU games so I'm sure his heart goes out to Hand like the real of the college basketball world.

If she were to play it would be next summer which gives her plenty of time to get healthy and strong. Hopefully, if she can still compete, she'll give it a try.

On Twitter:

OU Women's Hoops ‏@OUWomensHoops 9h

(Hughes cont.): "We’ve just admired this woman. For a chance to draft her in the third round was something we were pleased to do."

.@SASilverStars' Hughes on @whitneyhand25: "What we would like to do with her...is when she becomes healthy again, see how that plays out."

Congratulations to @OUWomensHoops @WhitneyHand25 -- to @SASilverStars -- Dan Hughes knows basketball intelligence when he sees it!

Whitney Jones ‏@whitneyhand25 9h

Wow! So grateful to the @SASilverStars organization for taking a chance on me! So much respect for that program. Opportunity of a lifetime

How's that going to work out when Landry goes to another sports city? One of the reasons he didn't want to go to the NFL early was because she was still in school.

Landed and am soooo happy that @whitneyhand25 and I are teammates again!!! She deserves this SOOOO much!! Love you!

The WNBA season is from May 24th to Sept. 15th, so not a lot of over lap. Whitney more than likely will not play this year and continue to re-hab. The NFL season and WNBA season doesn't overlap all that much. The most important aspect is both have to make their respective teams. I wish them both the best of luck and just have to wait how every thing turns out. With two previous damaged knees, Whitney will have a tough hill to climb, but if any one can do it, Whitney certainly can. I think it would be awesome if both could play professionally.

This may just be a salute to Whitney for all she's done and been. If so, she's certainly deserving of the honor. I think it shows how little a 3rd round draft choice means, when they'd spend it on a player of middling speed who may or may not come back from her 2nd ACL.

According to the Article on the OU site, Whitney would be cleared medically in July, and "Drafting Hand allows San Antonio to claim the rights to her services should she attempt a comeback for the 2014 season. Hand would then be signed to a training camp contract with the Silver Stars."

Well, if you believe other boards, her husband maybe a Cowboy for a year or two before he washes out. So, at least they'd both be in Texas.

I'm thinking that it's not all symbolic. With only three rounds you'd think they'd use their picks on players they thought could play. It's not like baseball taking someone's kid in the 25th round or something.

Well, if you believe other boards, her husband maybe a Cowboy for a year or two before he washes out. So, at least they'd both be in Texas.

Put that signing bonus in the bank.

What's with these 1950s gender roles where we don't know how it's going to work out because of Landry and Whitney being in different places?! So what!

Whitney and Landry have testified at Oklahoma churches how they believe in traditional marriage, which would indicate they would not want to live apart for 6 months of the year.

I'm not at all sure that "traditional marriage" precludes a commuting relationship for a couple of years. What we don't know is whether Whitney is serious about wanting to play at that level, and whether this draft pick is the result of conversations between Whitney and Dan Hughes, or is just unilateral choice on his part.

I heard somewhere some time ago (I think it was Colton on the radio) that Whitney was rehabbing more with a goal of just being able to live a normal life without limping or pain than to further her playing career. Maybe this will change that - we'll just have to wait and see.

There's not much obligation on San Antonio's part here. Just a training camp spot and contract.

I read somewhere, maybe here, that since Whitney wouldn't be cleared to practice until July, this just means that San Antonio has the rights to her next year if she decided she wanted to give it a go.

Similar to what Tango said, we don't really know what "Traditional Marriage" means to Whitney & Landry. It didn't mean she felt she had to change the name on the back of her jersey, so who knows how she would feel about this next year.

Tony Romo and Landry Jones on the Dallas Cowboys. The Packer fan in me is ready to die laughing as those damn Big D fans' heads explode. "WHY YOU NO SHOW FRUSTRATION AT FIVE INTS?! WHY YOU FUMBLE INSTEAD OF SCORE?! WHY YOU WEAR GOOFY HAT BACKWARDS WHILE JOKING WITH TEAMMATES WHEN DOWN?! WHY YOU DATE AND MARRY HOT CHICKS WHILE I DON'T?!"

It'll be magnified by the fact that Texas A&M will not win the SEC in football (again) and Texas will not win anything in the Big 12 (except volleyball of course)
