Who is the best coach in college basketball right now?

Who would you pick to run your program today?

That's good stuff....not as good as the Chuggy-bear warm up he now sports.

Since this board is very PG I didn't post it....but do a google image search using "Bob Huggins". Someone photoshopped a saying on that pic. I almost posted it but thought the mods would get mad about it.

And I rate Gary Williams up there when it comes to flat out coaching...so you have 3 in that portion of the region with KU #1, Maryland #4, and MSU #5. Heavy weight coaching.
Yea you also have Lon Kruger (who I respect a lot), Bruce Pearl, Thad Matta, John Thompson III, and even Travis Ford is showing he is a good coach. Tough region, I would be pretty upset if I were a KU fan, they got screwed. They deserve major props if they make it through that region.

On another board, 4-5 years ago, Illinois fans were screaming about how much better of a coach Bruce Webber is than Self. Oops.

UNLV and UNI should be a good game. And both, especially UNI could give KU some trouble (KU's depth will eventually wear them out). Toughest region, and by quite a bit IMO.

Too many NIT trips recently?

That's probably what keeps him from taking the top spot. But I think he should be given some consideration for coaching in the league he coaches in when it comes to that. He's been to the sweet sixteen 15 times, to the elite eight 4 times, lost in the title game twice and won it all once. He's won 20+ games 13 years in a row.

Haha yea. It's hard to mess up Luther Head, Deron Williams, and Dee Brown. Webber has a couple more years to turn it around. He gets help this year with Luther Head's brother Crandle coming in with a great class. Crandle was better at the same age then Luther was, and Luther is still getting run in the NBA and was a very good college player. If they don't make the NCAA Tournament next year with a great class coming in with good players coming back, he's done. They only have 2 seniors on the team this year and they don't play.

Don't tell them this because they get upset, but Webber started whipping out the $$ to get his recruiting going ;)

He needed to, after he got out paid by Duke to get Scheyer. His freaking brother is the coach at Glenbrook North also, lol. How does the state school coach miss out on the state's best player (arguably) when his brother is his high school coach, lol. Webber, lol.

LOL...don't worry, we none Illinois fans unmercifully dogged them about that.

Oh yea, I know tons of Illinois fans having grown up in Chicago. Most are excited about next year given the class coming in and what they have returning, but they aren't as excited as they should be because Webber is the coach, lol.

You're telling me Illinois will feature a player next year by the name of Crandle Head? Good grief.

Oh, and I've seen two different Illinois games this year where guys have flat out ignored Weber on the bench. He comes over with the whiteboard, draws up a play, and the guy never even gives it a glance.

1. Jeff Capel
2. Roy Williams
3. Mike zkeirwenainienwiewski

Have a wonderful day.

From a pure X's and O's standpoint it's Izzo, Self, and Williams. If we were talking about recruiting, Pitino, Cal, Huggins would be in there. Calhoun is the best guy to coach team shooting. Boeheim is the most overrated X's and O's around.

If you ask me who is the best coach is I ask myself this question, if you give all those coaches on the list the same level of talent and put em up against each other who comes out on top ?

Ill put my money on Izzo every day of the week versus the rest of the guys on the list. Its not a coincidence his teams do so well in March, he goes after the right type of kids for his program, molds them to be tough SOBs, when those kids actually have some talent he ends up in the Final Four.

I was looking forward to about 10 years of Izzo/Sampson wars in the B10. Seriously, Kelvin is an idiot.

We're talking about a guy to run your program. That includes recruiting. Gary Williams may be an unbelievable X and O's guy but he is av average at best recruiter at this point. It comes down to the guy that does the best combination of both.
