Who is the best coach in college basketball right now?

Who would you pick to run your program today?

Haha yea. It's hard to mess up Luther Head, Deron Williams, and Dee Brown. Webber has a couple more years to turn it around. He gets help this year with Luther Head's brother Crandle coming in with a great class. Crandle was better at the same age then Luther was, and Luther is still getting run in the NBA and was a very good college player. If they don't make the NCAA Tournament next year with a great class coming in with good players coming back, he's done. They only have 2 seniors on the team this year and they don't play.

Can you imagine that Illini team with Self at the helm and Charlie Villanueva coming in? I think they beat UNC for the title that year with that combo added in.

I don't think there are any coaches in basketball, who can take the current Kansas team to the no 1 overall seed. If Capel has the same team, he probably will get it to the NCAA tournament, but I double that he can coach this current Kansas team to the BIG12 title.

We're talking about a guy to run your program. That includes recruiting. Gary Williams may be an unbelievable X and O's guy but he is av average at best recruiter at this point. It comes down to the guy that does the best combination of both.

Well, Gary has a title, unlike a good number of the guys you listed in the poll and your original post.

i've professed my love for izzo plenty.

i'll go with brad stevens. he deserves some love. 84-14 for his career, 18-0 in conference this year and 3 tournament appearances in his 3 years at butler.

Izzo is my pick, but the job Self did with KU last year was more than outstanding. They basically had a similar roster to UNC last year and he had those guys playing together like champs.

Considering he had OU in the driver's seat for a Big 12 title last season before his best player went down during their toughest 2 game stretch, I disagree.

Bill Self probably would coach last year OU team to the national title.

I'm not trying to say Gary's a bad coach. But the fact is he's been in the NIT 3 out of the last 5 years.

If we're gonna go to the mid majors, Mark Few deserves to be on that list. I doubt many would debate that he wasn't a top 10 coach in the country, then again Gonzaga really isnt considered a mid major team anymore.

Few is the one I agonized over the most. In the end the only reason I didn't include him in the poll choices is that he's never made it past the sweet 16 and he's been ousted in the first round 2 out of the last 3 years. However that could be an unfair standard I'm holding him to because he's not operating with the talent that other coaches on this list are.

As much as I hate him and I know he cheats like crazy it's probably Calipari. Why scum like him is allowed to coach at this level while Kelvin Sampson isn't is beyond me though.

The one thing about I really like about Calipari is that he is one of the few coaches out there who seems to get the most out of his "head cases" and doesn't back down to their egos. While some coaches coddle their star players regardless of their play, Cal has no problem at all chewing on his stars with the same intensity some coaches save for their role players.

Calvin Sampson - the phone calls = top 10 coach
You think what Calipari is doing is probably a lot worse than phone calls? I just think it's a bad double standard. He basically got destroyed because certain people didn't like him. While Cal keeps coaching.

There were really two different questions in this poll Who is the best coach and who would you pick to run your program.

Self may very well be the best coach, but I would pick Tom Izzo to run my program. I voted for Izzo.

What is funny is that if the NCAA tourney committee hadn't given them a gift this year, Donovan would have had missed the NCAA tournament 3 years in a row.
