Why do we only get one exhibition game this season?

I think the closed scrimage against a D-1 team replaces one exhibition game.

Does anyone know if this is a cost-cutting measure? Since major universities like OU pay to get exhibition teams on campus, I assume that to be the case. I'm just wondering how much money it will really save, when some schools appear to be traveling lost distances to these scrimmages?

At first glance it would appear that the loss of revenue from an extra exhibition game may figure into the equation. That is, until you realize most of those games are poorly attended, and yet the overhead is likely the same as a regular season game.

It would be interesting to know all of pros and cons that went into this change?

The only Pro I see is that your team gets to play a quality opponent without the risk of a loss effecting your post season play.

The Con is $$$$
