Honestly, I don't follow recruiting and I don't live in Oklahoma, so I don't have any names but I have seen names tossed about on this board of kids who were not recruited by Oklahoma who went to smaller colleges and made an impact.
Looking at Missouri State's roster, they have 2 kids who are 6'10" or 6'11", both from Oklahoma. One started all but 2 or 3 games last year and averaged about 10 ppg and 6-8 rpg. The other played a lot last season as well and had decent averages. I would bet both are more skilled than Nick Thompson and Orlando Allen.
David Godbold was headed to Wichita State because Oklahoma was hot on Malik Hairston. Once Hairston announced he was signing with Oregon, we then offered Godbold, who became a full time starter his last 2 years and a part-time starter his first 2 years.
I know the state of Oklahoma has produced at least 1 player of this caliber every year who was not recruited by OU so they went to a smaller school. If we were passing on the Oklahoma kids and getting better players who were sticking around and preparing to graduate as well as contributing on the team, then I wouldn't say one word. However, we have not. Instead, Capel targets the east coast malcontents who either get booted from the team or transfer out because they just aren't very good.
