They say football is a "game of inches". I'm not sure what the comparable saying is for basketball, but the same is true. There is just a fine line, often, between winning and losing. Everything matters. Winning teams understand this, teams that lose -- just lose sight of this.

Grooms had a good game, maybe his best ever, but his unnecessary showboating cost us the game.

Pledger had a good game, his best in a while, but his lack of effort on a long reboud right at him took away a second opportunity and gave OSU a runout and cost of the game.

Hornbeak played well, but he had his head up his rearend and lost position on the backside on two occasions and then slapped at Nash from directly behind him when he was going for a dunk -- pure braindead. These plays cost us the game.

I could go on and mention plays by other kids.

I could also mention a couple calls that cost us the game. IN a close game, you don't have to officiate in a biased way to direct the outcome, you just need to make one or two calls at the right time. Overall, I thought the officiating was fine, but OSU got two hustle play calls late that cost us the game. By hustle play calls, I mean kids from both schools are going for a loose ball, neither has an advantage, and a kid from one school gets a personal foul call for doing the exact same thing as the opposing player.

All of the above is stated just to say that we are still a ways from returning to winning form. I like the direction we are taking and the talent coming into the program, but there is still a play to play focus that we lack that the better teams have. I love the job lon is doing and I like the direction. it would really be big if we could gain the program momentum of making the post season. Hang in there kids and steal a few.

We made some bonehead plays late in the game and that was the difference.

Grooms had some really bad turnovers late in the game, but saying that we would have not been in the game if he hadn't played so well up to that point. 18 points is usually 4 games for Grooms.
