I think osu has only one female head coach for their women's teams and just a few years ago they had none. If women were getting opportunities to coach men's teams, I could halfway understand, but they don't.
OSU's only female head coach is for Women's Golf. However, it is pretty hard to argue with the results of the current coaches on campus.
Basketball was in the cellar with a female coach. Then came Budke & Littell and have raised it back up to a respectable level, not including this year.
Tennis just finished as a runner up in the NCAA last year and are in the top 10 again this year.
Cross Country/Track seems to have improved since Dave Smith took over. He is an elite coach and has been recognized as such multiple times.
Equestrian is not an NCAA sanctioned team, but is coached by a male. 6 national titles in 18 years is pretty good.
Soccer went from down to up to down again. 8 NCAA trips in 12 years, including back-to-back Elite 8s. They have recruited well, but struggled the past few years to remain competitive.
Softball is on the upswing, as OSU was 1 win from a Super Regional last year. He was an assistant coach on Florida's back-to-back NC teams.
I am all for hiring the best candidate for the team. The best candidate also has to have interest in the school. OSU has to get the correct "fit" to succeed in Stillwater. You love Stillwater and the remoteness, or you do not like it. It takes a coach who loves it to be able to sell the program & location.
I don't know why it is such a big deal as to what gender is a head coach.
And how many women even go after HC positions for men's teams? Becky Hammon has taken on the AC position with the Spurs. She has broken the barrier there, but how many other women are even interested in that move?
