This is their remaining schedule:

They are 4-5 and would probably need to get to 9-9 to feel somewhat safe. I can see them winning only 3 games the rest of the season if they tank it. But I also can see them sweeping Tech, winning @TCU and @Baylor and possiblly beating KSU at home in getting to 9-9.....yet I may be being a bit too generous with that. Because of their scoring, they will have a chance in every game that they play, but they simply don't have any chemistry or an identity right now. And that doesn't bode well at this point in the season.

OSU would have to experience a monumental collapse the rest of the way to not make the tourney. Losing three in a row is not good. But I still think they'll win enough of their remaining games to make it in.

They will be an interesting case...committee is supposed to take the body of work into consideration, but without Cobbins (and to some extent) Clark, this is not the same team at all. Think they will be a 10 or 11.

As much as I hate to say it, Marcus Smart's media appeal will work in OSU's favor on Selection Sunday. It doesn't matter that some of it is negative or controversial. The NCAA takes advantage of every chance they can get to increase viewership. If push comes to shove between OSU and a lesser known school, the Pokes will get the nod.

So, are you telling me that if all of the elements being considered are equal between OSU and a school with no star power to speak of, the committee would ignore the draw Smart would bring to games? I'm not buying.

Not that it matters, the likelihood of that happening are slim at best. All I'm saying is that the committee members are human beings who are charged with considering every aspect of the selections they make.

The problem they have is that the committee will take everything before Monday and pretty much throw it out the window. The committee will look at the current team and what they have done, that means what did they do without Cobbins and Clark.

Didn't the small school records and quality of wins have something to do with their selection?

My suggestion, which may have no basis of fact whatsoever, is centered around a player like Smart who can attract news media, television and fan attention. I never gave much thought to the size of the schools involved. That's why I said "if all of the elements being considered are equal."
