Women coaches

I'm sorry to see this post from you, roc.

I think Sherri knew what to do, and I think she knows Giorgis well enough to counter what he does. But, I also think Sherri has some young players who need to get a message. There are time that you might be willing to just sit back and let them get their brains beat out just to drive home a point. Stay in front of the person you are guarding. We have some very talented and very stubborn players who seem to be determined not to use their feet. We do more reaching than a kid at the family dinner table. Sherri has tried to drive home the point. She began the year by emphasizing feet on defense for a couple of days before touching offense.

If I were Sherri, I would make them sit in front of a screen every morning and watch the Marist game. I wouldn't begin to try to bail them out. I would let them be humiliated until the point was driven home. Move your feet.

I absolutely agree with this point of your post, however, at the same time my post just stated what I saw. A coaching staff that did an absolutely horrible job counter acting to what the Marist coaching staff did to give their players the edge. Being Griffin has proven to be a valuable defensive key in alternating the oppositions shots, having her guarding on the perimeter, IN MY OPINION, is not productive in keeping and preventing Marist from carving our defense apart and getting easy baskets. It didn't help,as you stated, that our kids played horrible fundamental defensive positioning either.

I believe this to be true as well. Today was like a scrimmage. Sherri didn't care who the opponent was today, she was going to teach and she did. Every time someone wasn't doing as expected she told them about it loudly or sat them on the bench and explained the problem and then sent them back out on the court.

Maybe some proof???

It was a hard game for me to watch, but it was refreshing that Coach let the kids play, make mistakes, and not take them out after the first or sometimes second mistake. She did a nice job of coaching and teaching, and the kids listened. I saw some combinations that played extremely well together, and some that just didn't gel. Thursday at Tech will be interesting. I just hope all the kids bring the A game that challenged Gonzaga, Louisville and Duke, and leave the UCLA and Marist games buried 20 feet deep where they need to be.

I was disappointed since I respect your opinion. I would think you might have thought that Sherri was making a point. She could have changed the defense. We might have beaten Marist. But, at some point, she has to get the message across that they have to play defense, and Marist demonstrated that the kids hadn't gotten that point. Are you going to continue to bail them out with conference season here? Force them to learn.

I don't believe for a second Sherri would lose a game to send a message to the team.
