Women's NCAA Tournament

A lot of people guaranteed that Baylor would be Louisville, too. ;)

Might have been my favorite non-OU women's basketball game of all time!!!

Gives me chills (and Melissa Barlow too!) just thinking about it!

:ez-roll::ez-roll::ez-roll:

South Dakota State is leading Stanford, 55 - 49 with 7:45 to go in the 4th.

So Stanford is losing at home and the UCLA game is tight but they continue to show this turd of a game.

How about two channels? Oh yeah. Men's NIT.

I have Cox and I searched for 2016 NCAA Women and found the reset of the games.

Overall success is the obvious factor!!

The men's gymnastics team is not top dog over OU football even though they have had overall more success.

The OUwbb is not top dog over OUMbb even though Coach Coale has been to 17 straight NCAA tournaments.

Baylor WBB is not top dog over the men's program. Just like UCONN WBB is not top dog over MBB. It would be exceedingly rare for that to happen at a D1
School...Pat might have been the last one that I can remember before Pearl got there.

Apologies for hijacking the thread...

I beg to differ. WBB has higher attendance, popularity, and generates more money in past few years than men's program. In Waco, if basketball is mentioned the LadyBears is first word that comes to mind not the Bears! Clearly we are not even close to the football team but in the sport of basketball the LadyBears are first!

Prove it. Show me the revenue and attendance - the butts in seats not tickets sold (cost of tickets as well). Show me student tickets sold comparing the two.

Thanks in advance.

We have some good games coming up such as:

Texas vs UCLA

Kentucky vs Washington

Oregon St. vs DePaul

I also think Baylor vs Florida St. could be closer than some people think.

I went ahead and did your homework for you, mulk.

From a Baylor guy in the know,

Baylor WBB - is certainly not in the black as you implied. Costs the university around 2 million per year when it is all said and done.

Baylor MBB - Turned a slight profit for Baylor last year. If anything, it is neutral and has been since Scott Drew turned it around.

Baylor MBB and WBB - HAVE sold around the same number of season tickets over the last three years. Cost for tickets are lower across the board for WBB with decent seats being around $350 less for WBB than MBB for season tickets (hence part of the difference in revenue generation - along with the TV contracts/postseason monies)

Baylor MBB - has around 1500 students show up for its conference games.
Baylor WBB - averages around 50
Student tickets are free at Baylor for both MBB and WBB

SO,

just as I said, Baylor WBB is no different than OU WBB when it comes to its place in the economics and "pecking order" at Baylor.

It goes:

1) Baylor Football

2) Baylor MBB

3) All other losing profit programs with the Lady Bears basketball program currently being at the top of the heap

But don't let the facts get in your way of coming on here and acting like you have something different in Waco...:D

Hate to disagree with you but a look at 2015-16 attendance records as published by the B12 conference (see links below) show the Men's average attendance (6,410) to be higher than the Women's (6,283) though virtually the same.

Also the Baylor website is not currently publishing ticket prices for either the men's or women's tickets. But it is logical to assume that the differential between the cost of men's and women's is not dissimilar from those at OU.

The cost of season tickets at OU men's games including the required donation for ticket location varies from $160 + zero donation = $160 to $550 $500 donation = $1,050. While the prices for the women's season ticket varies from $100 + no donation = $100 to $180 +$250 donation = $430. Hence one can conclude that the cost of the men's season tickets are approximately twice that of the women's season tickets. It would seem reasonable that Big Time's numbers posted above are probably close to fact.

While the differential may be somewhat different in Waco the disparity between the cost of men's and women's ticket will be significantly higher for the Baylor men. Moreover once you introduce the TV revenue earned by the Baylor men vs the Baylor women will also be significantly higher.

Likewise, while we will never know with Baylor being a private school it is probable that Scott Drew earns 50-100% more than does Kim Mulkey with both earning seven figures incomes. I feel certain that Kim earns more than Sherri but there is no way to know for certain as Baylor will not disclose such information.

There is a real disparity between to OU programs and the Baylor programs. Where the Baylor programs are selling virtually the same number of tickets the OU men's program (10,000) are selling virtually twice the number of tickets as the women (4,769). Very much illustrates the power of the Baylor women's program vs OU despite their averaging 3,550 fewer tickets sold/game than does ISU.

Ok both of you got me I admit I was wrong. Basically I was really trying to convey how much WBB at Baylor has grown into a dynasty and is mentioned in conversations not just about the football team or men's program. I have season tickets to both programs and have noticed a considerable decline in the past few years in attendance for MBB and an increase in WBB games. I know both sports will never be equal but just glad to see WBB program get a little respect that it deserves in the community. I can remember during the Hogg/Pam Bowers era when you would be lucky to have 100 total fans in attendance and now we are averaging 6,000+. I enjoy the WBB much better than MBB!
