I know this is the men's forum...but prob not much traffic on women's.

2-11 in Big 12

8 FR
3 So
2 Sr

Part of coaching is recruiting...how can ya end up with that lopsided of a roster?

Sure a few of those Fr will transfer or leave before Sr year..if not it's going to be a big hit. It'll just continue..sad. Use to be decent to watch and follow.

Not just decent, outstanding women’s basketball, competing for final fours and national titles. Now, they’re just trying to stay in the top half of the conference—not too successfully lately I might add. Can you say “bottom feeders” this season?

Being young might be a somewhat legitimate excuse this season, but SC hasn’t had a top notch team in nearly ten years. Sad, really! Sherri was one of the best coaches around once, still is IMHO. I don’t know if she has surrounded herself with assistants who can’t recruit and she refuses to admit it, or the game has passed her by and she can’t keep up anymore? One thing is certain, something is seriously wrong with the women’s basketball program!

I know its a thin line but kevin kruger is a legit college assistant.

Her son isnt. He's a tool bag.

Colton Coale is NOT a Legit assistant. His only qualification is that he played HS basketball and played on the women's male practice team. Even Gasso made her son go out and work for other D1 schools (Purdue and Michigan State) as a full time assistant before being hired at OU.

Man ou needs a non-nepotism policy badly

Agreed. The damage nepotism has done to OU’s sports programs in the last few years can’t be measured in dollars and cents. Our softball program is the exception.

holy crap I didn't know that...wow.

Gasso is the best...she needs to be paid like coale..

I sort of agree....the fact she brought her unqualified son on...and recruited to the situation we are in now is a reflection of her.

I know early on she didn't push recruits...there was a story of one of our top girls...said SC didn't write her every day...said she couldn't, she had kids, husband, etc...but she wanted the recruit at OU. That seemed to work a few years ago...

Now kids want the constant love I guess...finally hit the women's teams.

I think its fine to hire your family but if the AD says its time to fire them. Then you do it or you go yourself.

Write that in the contract. They write everything in there anyways...

One of the FR is Chloe Bloom, who just arrived in January like Freeman did. She is redshirting this semester and will be a RFR next fall. I think Clary was going to be a walk-on but they had so many unused scholarships they gave her one. Dungee and Mulkey transferring out wiped out one year's entire recruiting class, and they are both contributing at their new schools.

I don’t follow the women’s team like I did in years past (my wife and I were season ticket holders once), so I didn’t know about the son. That seems to confirm one of my suspicions about SC’s assistants.

I do know one thing, recruiting has not been the same since Bo Overton a former Ada boy left to take a head coaching position. It didn’t start right away, but there was a noticeable decline in the caliber of the recruits after he left.

You’re right, Sherri has always been known as a players’ coach. Nothing wrong with thst except it’s bound to catch up to you eventually if that is your primary focus in recruiting and in coaching. Sorry to say, the OU women’s program appears to be there now. Ten seasons when OU was only ranked nationally four times. The last two have gotten progressively worse. Declining attendance is the norm now. Not a good description of a program on the rise.

Too bad...guess we'll see.

I've been following the women's team closely the last 10 + years heck even 15 probably, and the thing that's really killed the program is Sherry's laziness to get out there and recruit quality players. or at least make sure that her lazy assistant coaches do so properly. And when we do miraculously land a talented player they do absolutely nothing to develop them throughout their four years so essentially no one gets better when they come to OU. Didn't used to be that way though. She has a system she wants a prospective recruit to fit into and if they don't, regardless if they are all American or top 10 nationally, she won't pursue them!
she goes after these church-going, prim and proper girls because she likes the 'look' that they have and the person they are off the court but in my opinion it's what they do on the court that matters more. This is sports after all! The team will continue to die until she gets over herself and changes some of her recruiting attitudes. She's already driving Pellington to transfer out, who was Big 12 freshman of the year last year mind you, by benching her the last several games, not even playing her in some... Big trouble for the program unless some coaching changes are made.

Is she the lone bright spot? I mean bu hammered them by 30..

Honestly, the 10 game losing stretch I would have changed line-ups prob 2 or 3 times to get something.

Agree with your other points though.
