True, but also not relevant to the thread, which is focused solely on offense. Horrible game, obviously. But like so many things these days, everyone is quick to proclaim the most recent event the best, worst, etc.

I was thinking last night that as much crap as Kelvin used to get for having terrible offensive performances from time to time, I honestly feel like on average, Kruger's teams have done it more.

In my mind I'd use 60 points as the cutoff. Maybe one of these days I'll have time to go do the research, but either way, over the years, Lon's teams have produced quite a few stinkers.

47/12 seasons= 3.92 games/season. It should be noted that Sampson's teams did win a handful of the games they scored under 60.

33/9 seasons (I know this season isn't finished) = 3.67 games/season. OU would have to have 3 more this season for Kruger's teams to average more per season. But, 3.92 isn't going to be statistically significantly different than 3.67.

Of course the style of the play of the opponent dictates the scoring in a game. Even Tubbs had a number of games under 60 points with even multiple games in the 40s.

Also don’t forget to factor in that the Big 12 Lon is facing is TONS better than the league was when Kelvin coaches at OU. In Kelvins days, you could basically pencil in sweeps against A&M, K-State and Baylor. You can’t assume that in today’s conference.

Sooner04 mentioned the Texas game as being the worst offensive performance. For a complete game he might be right. As far as worst offensive perfromance I've ever seen, it had to be the second half of the Big XII championship game in '03 where we scored a total of 12 points. Yet we still won the game 49-47.

I also agree with DuncanSooner that Lon misses Henson and Lew Hill. Since that time we don't have the same fundamental strengths and player development isn't as great.

Also, Kruger's offense isn't as set or play heavy as other coaches, so when things aren't working, it's harder to call a play and say this will get us going again. I remember how deadly Kelvin was after a TO, inbounds, or in crunch time because he was a lot more structured on offense. The lack of a post-game for easy buckets is also killing us. Think about it, most of the time our "5" is a stretch 4 and our PF is playing out top 15-19 feet. No inside buckets.

When we don't hit shots or get out on the break, especially with no inside post-game or rebounding, our offense will look terrible, like last night. We don't have an "identity" to rely on when shooting sucks.

I hope some day this narrative dies. I always felt like it was blown out of proportion, b/c some simply didn't like that style. I'd argue it's worse when a Capel or Kruger team gets held that low, b/c they almost certainly were playing at a faster pace with more possessions.
