#14 OU vs KSU 1pm 1/23

Sounds like the ladies ran into a hornets nest...

No, not really, just one. The Queen Bee, otherwise known as Ayoka Lee, KSU’s 6’ 6” All-American center.

No one could stop her. She scored with ease, even when she was double teamed. When she went out of the game a few minutes before the final buzzer, she had 61 points, the same number at the time as OU’s entire team.

The Sooners were so bumfuzzled on the defensive end, they forgot how to score on the offensive end. What a nightmare!

I watched OU's defense of Lee extensively the second half and the wildcat guards seemed to wait until we fronted her attempting to deny the pass and then they would make an elevated pass over our flat-footed defenders that they could not defend and which Lee would catch and lay it up. To date other conference teams have done a better job on Lee than did OU but Lee is still scoring big.

The key to defending her by the other B12 teams appears to have been denying her the ball but she has still averaged slightly better than 23 p/g. Now 28.6 p/g in conference play. OU had no success denying her the ball.

Lee made 23/30 shot attempts against OU while she only had 10 attempts against WVU, 11 against OSU and 12 against Tech and scored 14, 18 and 12 respectively. Against ISU she made 18/29 attempts and scored 38 but only 2/5 from the FT line. Against OU she scored 15/17 from the line and made 5 more FGs.

Also should be noted OU really did not make any effective adjustments defending Lee at the half as she scored 32 points the first half and 29 points the second half as the OU defenders were all equally inept against Lee.

I thought about defending her differently. We tried to double team her but they did a good job of spreading the floor so our double was often late. Someone posted that TT had 6'4" and 6'3" post players in front and behind her at all times. I suppose we could have played Lampkin and Svboda like that but that would have had reduced our offensive firepower considerably. They are just a really bad matchup for us.

I think this game was a combination of a horrendous defensive performance on Lee, as well as our worst offensive performance of the season. Props to K-State, but their defense isn't THAT good. I mean, Vann did miss multiple wide open 3s, and we did miss so many open layups that Lee didn't effect. We've never been down that much, so I think we did get rattled, and for a team that depends primarily on perimeter shooting for their scoring, it's hard to score points when you're just having a bad shooting day. If we had a productive big, we could have fed it in to her for high percentage scores. I don't believe Lee will play another game in her career like the one she did against us, and if you think about it, if she'd even scored just 40 POINTS, this game would have been much more interesting.
I think when we play them in Norman we will know what we are going into, and also have a chip on our shoulder and something to prove against them, and hopefully win, if not at least make it a much more competitive game.

Excited to see how we fair against Pokes and Horns this week. I believe we could and should go 2-0, but stranger things have happened. Winning at home is critical in this league!

They are out there but not many with her height and skill. Tech had 2 6'4" and 1 6'3" girl. They apparently fronted and denied Lee the ball as she only got 12 shot and made only 12 points as Tech won big time.

My guess is the KSU guards were not near as affective against Tech as they were against us today at getting ball into Lee with very accurate elevated passes out of the reach of OU defenders. And they were outstanding today with virtually no contest passes to Lee.

Hey, your coach had access to the Texas Tech tape vs. K-State
Not our fault she didn’t use it to her advantage.

FYI - K-State is #1 in the Big 12 in FG% defense for a reason.

How would you suggest she might have used that tape? Watch three players taller than anyone on our team defend your center successfully?

Heck yeah! Point us in the direction of a tape that would add a minimum of 3 inches to Lampkin, Scott and Svoboda! :ez-roll:

This should win the award for most ridiculous post of the year.
